phbmom–huge congrats to you DD. West Point! My DS has a good friend who will be attending in the fall. My DH served 26 years and my DS is awaiting the ROTC scholarship board results. He’s met with the ROTC dept at his top school and is excited about the programs.

OWM-if you don’t see Gluten free cakes look at the brownie mixes. Sometimes they are in the special diet section of stores–where they have organic items and such.

phbmom - congratulations on West Point. And a big thank you to your D!

We did the 18 gifts for 18 out here too. Although we actually did 19 - one for good luck! With each gift, we gave her a letter - when she had all 19 letters, she could put them together for a phrase. Was fun watching her get these gifts - by the time she got to around 12, she had guessed the phrase! We got her an engraved silver bracelet, a light jacket in her favorite color, a t-shirt with giraffes on it (she loves them!), jelly beans, peppermint truffles, the voter registration card, a donation to a charity she loves, a picture plaque of the family that she can take to the dorm, a roll of duct tape, neon markers for her white board, a toy story sticker book and so on.

Went to a reception for school #1 last night. D had a good time at the reception, enjoyed meeting the kids that were there. I have a feeling this decision is going to be harder than I’ve been thinking it was. H is busy playing devils advocate …and D was telling folks at the reception yesterday that she was still deciding between 3 schools. So, I guess school #3 is not yet off her list! Oy!

**The SS Indecision left port on April 1st.

The ship will stop in many ports this month with the last port call scheduled in 17 days when all final commitments to schools are due. (Or nautically speaking, it’s time to sink or swim.)**

This afternoon we are off to the accepted student days program at Georgetown that is scheduled for tomorrow and Saturday. This is the last one unless the SS Waitlist suddenly show up and crosses our bow. Hopefully S will make his final decision on the ride home.

I may or may not have time to post the countdown tomorrow or Saturday. I am sure everyone will survive without it if I don’t get it posted.

phbmom: Congratulations to your D and thanks for her willingness to serve.
S2 had been approached persistently by his sports’ coach (he even came to see him compete several times), but he had to politely decline. One of his best buddy will be going next year.
I believe we have all or most academies represented at HS graduation. Those kids get the most applause and cheers…rightfully so. God Bless.

gamom~Good Luck to your D :)

VAmom2015~Good luck with the ROTC scholarship.

Good Luck to all with re-visits,and tough decisions to make.

gamomof3 - best wishes to your daughter as she tries out for cheerleading. What a great way to be involved and meet lots of friends. One of my former students is on the state u dance team, and it has been a very positive experience for her.

Thanks to all for congratulations as D2 has committed to West Point. She received many congrats on facebook including one from the plebe she spent the night with for a candidate visit in January along with an encouraging note.

momjr~Yes birthday care package is a great idea.

I send a care package every other week, S and roommate love it.
Another mom has a care package exchange at her house . I think it is a fun idea for everyone to get together and discuss how college life is going, ups and downs. :D

Avon~Enjoy your visit at Gtown. We have quite a few students that go there every year. S1 declined last year to go to what was a better fit for him. I personnally think it is a great school with a lot to offer. You can not go wrong.

A quick question that I am sure has been asked before on this site. Does my son need to notify the schools he will not be attending? We have already sent in the deposit to the school he will be attending, and we are off this weekend to the accepted student event. Thanks for any help…

I think it is polite to respond and helps the schools manage their waitlists. On many of the reply cards there is a spot to indicate that you will NOT be attending the school. The schools often ask what school you WILL be attending–helps them see who they’re competing against. You can just check the appropriate box and drop the card in the mail to decline the other schools.

DS has decided on Pitt. It was tough decision for him. It came down to whether he wanted a big school or a small one, and after visiting the top contender in each category, it came down to Pitt. He’s happy and so am I.

Congrats to all whose kids have made their decisions and am hoping that those still undecided make their pick. It feels so good to know.

Congrats, cptofthehouse! It does feel good to know, doesn’t it? The period of indecision is similar to the nine months of maternity; the agony of waiting increases the sweet feeling of relief when it’s over.

Cpt - congrats on Pitt! I’m glad he’s happy. Was he able to tell you why he chose Pitt over the smaller school? That is a factor for S so I’m curious what was the tipping point.

Phb - your D must be amazing - West Point?! congrats!

gamom - good luck to your D; I have a friend whose D has tried/is trying out at 3 schools (UNC, UGA, Clemson).

OK, so I’m not sure if there is such a thing as OT on this thread, but…

When D and I were driving down to Yale on Weds I asked where she needed to be dropped off (I had to get back for S’s tennis match, which was ultimately rained out). Dwight Hall. Right. Movie star parking space right in front. Walk in with her to help carry the sleeping bag we couldn’t find the stuff sac for, since she had two bags already. Long, narrow, Gothic (?) stone hall with beautiful stained glass window ahead behind the Registration tables. Coffee, cupcakes, brochures, Yale ponchos (against the rain!), etc. on tables lining the way. D went on ahead (thankfully) while I almost started to cry. I was MARRIED in that room 25 years ago when it was still a consecrated chapel. And they turned it into the Student Center???

OK Rant alert:
Months ago, My younger student says “Mom, Can xyz spend the night so we can drive xyz with us to the sporting event because xyz’s parents have abc to do…and xyz would have to miss, etc etc”
OK So we bring xyz home after the team dinner and xyz spends the night and I take xyz to the event etc…

Fast Fwd…we have to be at a wedding tom evening and the team arrives at the school from an out of town/overnight event about the time the ceremony finishes/reception starts (20 miles away from the school)
…and our student asks xyz if his parents can drop kiddo at home when they pick xyz up…about 5 miles from their house–
And they said NO…it was out of their way!!!

OK SO I can bring your child home and he spends the night and 5 miles is too much for my 14 yr old to get a ride???

To my gluten-free knowledgeable friends. Do I need to do anything special to make sure the cake stays moist for the next 24 hours?

Found the chocolate cake mix, plus chocolate non-dairy ice “cream” and canned icing that says it contains no wheat or dairy, so I hope I have everything covered for tomorrow.

I did go a little ice cream crazy, however. Breyers was on sale. They have two new flavors–mint with crushed oreos and mint with fudge brownie. Got them both along with birthday boys request for mint chocolate chip. The kids coming to the party can go through a Sam’s Club box of oreos in an evening.
