Omg!!!

It’s not the kids we talk about on here who have the brains in the family-it is US!!! :)

I glad you are all enjoying your new power. The next step is to figure out how to MIS-quote someone.

I have not posted anything in a week. I went on a work trip, and then was able to meet my son for two college visits in the Philly area. Before we left, he had four top choices ranked as: school A (a small niche program at which he is waitlisted), school B (a premier national university), school C (a fine LAC, that gave him killer merit and is the best value of his choices), school D (a premier LAC.) On this trip, we got to visit schools B and D–his first time at either.

So what are the rankings when we get home? A, B, C, and D–the same as they were before we left. I was rather hoping for a more definitive outcome from the trip. We are still waiting for the singing of the celestial choir. It was a really stormy weekend as we were visiting the campuses–an excellent opportunity for a shaft of sunlight to stream through the clouds, illuminating Old Main, or the Chapel, with the symbolic light of certainty. But nooo- we are still leaning on the rail of the SS Indecision.

We are off the SS Indecision!
It’s MIT.
I need a stiff drink, lol.

Hurray for aria!!

amanda - you are still our alphabetical leader and honorary drum major.

You guys are SO funny with the quote stuff.

I’d like to say that a little more spring would be a big help around here … I buy the whole Wisconsin thing, but this is getting ridiculous.

Hey there CCers…You are all hilarious!!

Next picture posting !!

Congrats Aria!! Hurray for MIT!

Congrats, Aria! I hope your student will be very happy there.

Hey, has anyone had trouble uploading photos to shutterfly? When I try to upload, it gets all the way to the “finalizing upload” stage, and then turns into “error.” I’ve made the files as small as I can; some pictures work, some don’t, even of the same size. Any hints? Thanks.

aria-congrats

momdoc- It was a miracle that I was able to upload the photos. honestly I have no idea how I did it!!! took a few different trys!

Hurray for MIT. My D loves the pranks they pull there (and at CalTech).

Just have to say that since D has gotten back from her Costa Rican trip she is brimming with excitement (well as much as she has ever brimmed…) about going to Juniata. Joined the FB Class of 2015 group, filled out her housing request form and is even reading a book I got for her (The Naked Roommate…great advice book on adjusting to college by the way!). She is SO ready to go off to college now and start her adventure.
I on the other hand am wishing the next 4 months would go in slow motion…she starts on 8/20!!!
And I really need to start planning her graduation party…that is in 2 months!!

Aria - congrats! Yes, my bro who graduated from MIT was one of the DKE house guys who placed the inflatable below the 50 yd line at Harvard before the Yale game. And something about a cannon on the roof and rats? And putting a car on top of a building… bunch of really inventive pranksters.

Fifty years ago my father and his frat brothers at MIT put a fictitious guy through ROTC …

My D also said today she wouldn’t mind leaving for college right NOW - although I think that’s as much senioritis as absolute excitement. This last month or so of AP exams and final commitments is going to be pretty teeth-gritting. I"m just grateful she hasn’t felt like that the whole year, as so many kids do.

She did buy her AP study books today, plus a few fun books to read. I can feel the severing of apron strings - she bought a few used copies of books we’ve shared here at the house, to have “of her own.”

So we’re still on the indecision boat but heading closer to shore. S had two college visits over the weekend, and I think he’s leaning heavily towards one school over the other. I won’t let the cat out of the bag just yet, but I think a sweatshirt is in our near future!

Congrats Aria on MIT. That was one of my son’s early favorites. A great school in a fun city to boot!

Well, I thought we were about to disembark, but apparently not. The first questions on the college questionnaire was small or large, rural or urban. D couldn’t decide. So I guess it is cosmic justice that she is down to Williams v. Yale.
Sorry to be so self-centered. I read all of your posts and want to respond, but then the thin, watery voice calls “Mo…o…om” and I skip three pages.

Thank you all for your thoughts, insights and suggestions. I’m still working on the practical stuff - looking at schools, calling to see if they have openings, she is applying to a few and then I think we’ll end up spending a few days in Texas in May. As MyLB suggested, I am still weaving her other choices into conversations but she is actually becoming more focused in this new direction each time we talk. I do think there is a possibility this is at least partially “nerves” but I’ve known all along that she wasn’t as over the moon about her school as I had hoped she would be. I should have pushed her harder to talk about it but I didn’t and now we are where we are.

And Emmybet - that thread you referenced is actually me! My laptop was in the shop this weekend (!) when my daughter laid the whammy on me. My laptop normally keeps me logged in to this site and I was a (little) freaked out that day so could NOT remember my sign-on. I ended up setting up another account so that I could start a thread asking for help. When I got my laptop back, I went back to my old name and instinctively came back to this thread. Wonder if I need to do something about the other name that I won’t use again? Oh, well… too many other things to worry about!

For those who’ve asked, DD thought she wanted BIG schools but is now thinking 30,000 kids max and would be okay down to about 5-6,000. Public or private is okay and she’d like them to have sports (doesn’t want to cheer anymore but loves being a spectator at all kinds of games). Doesn’t have to be in a big city but would like to be able to get to one occasionally. And her stats are okay but not enough to make schools bump her to the top of any WLs or anything (lol). Oh, and she plans to study Early Childhood Education.

Sorry for the long posts this week…

Wait! What is this I feel? Dry land? YES!!! DS has made his decision and we are finally back on terra firma (albeit a bit poorer than when the boat started its’ journey).

He has chosen to attend Lebanon Valley College which I think will be a great fit for him in terms of size, atmosphere and major as well as proximity to home (far enough to be away but close enough to be picked up for breaks).

The relief almost borders on giddiness. I am now decluttering the fridge by removing the unchosen (is that a word) school’s magnets and varies items of chatski (bobblehead anyone?).

I am waving from shore with the others now!

Momofzach - congrats on the decision. Giddiness is a great sign :). So happy for you !

congrats momofzach!

So everyone who is playing with “quote” –

You know how you are doing “Post Quick Reply” at the bottom of the page? If you click on the next button (“Go Advanced”) instead, then you go to a page where you can compose your post and then click on Preview Post. You can see how it looks before you post it. There are other features you can play with there as well. Have fun…

Pepper, YAY! You did it!!! And again, look at you!!! And holliesue and amanda…you guys are giving me the highlight of my week with your new-found quoting abilities (which tells you about my week), but I feel like I’m watching wobbly little kids on bikes when the training wheels first come off. Keep pedaling!

proudmom== here 's to some serenity and clarity for you with your latest college app process challenge…
since D1 is our oldest it was so hard to know how/where to start with the college search list and there are definitely some schools we missed, however I was lucky she DID speak up loud and clear about preferred location and stuck with that even when I “threw” other options at her

camathmom==hope you get some good results with the FA

well, rather a short college visit today–D1 in the midst of a bad cold bug and just not up to much, but she did get to sit in on a class and that was the most important to her, and did the tour again. 2nd visit but today was a regular school day…quite a different real life vibe than the weekend “show” admissions put on in the fall…nice to see both sides, still in the running(not sure what # it is on her top 4 but it’s in there I know) depending on final finaid–they called the other morning and went over it verbally a bit but I need to see it in black and white.
