Parents of the HS Class of 2011 - Original

Difficult-to-get-to-ness is an issue for D1, also. D1 seems to vacillate between far away and close by, which I take to mean that a single plane ride is fine, but plane ride plus bus/small plane ride might not be so OK. Rochester is the most remote on her current list. U of O isn’t distant but can be a pricy plane ride, even to southern California. Santa Cruz, which she has yet to visit, is a shuttle ride to the airport but then a short flight. Everything else on her list is a Southwest Airlines school  unless she decides to bring Muhlenberg back in from the minor leagues to the big time.

Hey, anything to make the list shorter! D1’s first requirement was that the school had to have a significant Jewish community.

We know we can’t afford to have the kids come home for breaks other than Christmas, so one of the things we looked at is whether students could stay in the dorms over the other breaks. While going home with friends who live close by is an option, it is nice to know you have the option of staying on campus if need be.

Here’s the College Board’s publication on schools and their policies on superscoring Higher Education Professionals | College Board;

^^Well isn’t that a handy chart! Thanks :)

No more SAT prep has been done since Easter break. Oh well. If he doesn’t get what he wants, he’ll just take it again in October :)

Good luck to all the SAT takers tomorrow! :)

I’ve got SAT II’s tm, which aren’t nearly as stressful as the SAT I

At my college planning meeting with my parents and guidance counselor, after I forgot some of the colleges I was thinking about, my guidance counselor made some recommendations of colleges that I had actually been considering (but forgot). I guess I’m on the right track in the college search.

My son is taking the SATI tomorrow…oh boy…literally…

My guys are driving to school now  It is what it is

His stressed friend called last night around 9pm (LuckyBoy has a distinctive ring tone for this friend LOL) and wanted to discuss finer points of grammar. S told him to stop studying and chill  S was watching a movie at the time and was in bed at 11pm.

Our student did some quickie review of the books last night–but has had way too much ont he front burners so I am afraid that review wasn’t much. Hoping the AP chem work, Physics etc helps…

Up for a decent breakfast and off to school.

Praying all have a great day. :o)

My boy texted me he made it to the test center with time to spare!

Good luck to everyone taking the test today-remember you can always take it again and again and again. j/k

His entire junior class seems to be taking it this time-so there is a big party planned after the test-that boosted his mood.

D waiting to retake SAT until June. Too much school work and APs to worry about now. It helps that she isn’t taking any SAT II’s, so the June date works best for her. Most of her friends are taking it today. Good luck to all the test takers!!

Beautiful day here. S is taking the SAT as I write this. I wanted to review techniques/tips for the essay and call it a night last night. H OTOH felt S should continue to study hard. We comprimised, S took a couple of practice writing section tests and then chilled. I signed him up to take the test at his private HS rather than the local HS figuring there was a comfort factor taking it at his familar school. Ends up the friends he knows taking it at going to local schools. We probably live closer than most of them so a long early morning drive may have been part of the consideration. They want the kids to report at 7:45 ?&! What the heck, that is earlier than he starts school. I wish the tests started closer to 9:00.

Good luck to everyone taking it.

Woo hoo! Standardized testing is done, except for an upcoming AP exam, which my D isn’t worried about. D took the Literature and US History SAT IIs this morning. She felt a huge relief when it was over!

Slight possibility she might take the SAT again in the fall… we’ll see.

:thumbs up:

S felt good about today’s SAT. I was concerned about the W portion. It was his lowest section last time. But, he seemed to write a good essay and felt he did well on the multiple choice. We’ll see at the end of the month. Next up AP’s.

Our student did 3 SAT2s today–felt good about them—70+ questions per test–60 minutes each. Thats alot to do in a short amount of time–especially when they are math and sciences and need calculations.

AP Cal next week–followed by 3 more then following week…and the SAT in June…its bee a long spring, hasn’t it?

S got home from SATI, said he felt the writing and math went well, English, not so much…that usually means really bad. I think we’ll be brushing up on that English this summer and retaking in the Fall. He did no prep, we decided that we’d do prep this summer if need be. He’s not a prep kind of guy.

We decided that he should take the ACT just in case that is a better kind of test for him. Neither my H or I did, but we felt it might be best for him. He agreed. (Anything not to do a SAT prep course.) He takes AP Stats Tuesday and the following Tuesday AP Chem.

Good Luck to all of your students takign AP tests in the coming weeks!

It has been a long spring fogfog…

Wish that was my S’s school! He was the only one he knew taking SATI today (a retake) and he ended up in a room that didn’t get going for over an HOUR after the scheduled test time (some kind of special accomodations room)

Nevertheless, he felt really good about math and CR and the esssay part of the writing; not good on the writing multiple choice this time. We’ll see…his big goal was to raise his math score this time so finters crossed!

LuckyBoy came home in a good mood, feeling confident about all the sections. We’ll see how that translates into scores later this month  It would be lovely if he could be “one and done!”

He ate some lunch out with dh, came home for books and his bike, then met his Stressed Friend for an AP Calc study session :)

Hello, parents! New class of 2011 mom here! D1 is a junior who just finished her first SAT yesterday and got her April ACT scores back a few days ago, which we were pleasantly impressed with (30 composite, first time taking the test!). Now that we know her “range,” it’s time to begin looking for schools that she would really fit well at… We’re from Mass, but D wants a WARM location. So the real search begins! :)
