Parents of the HS Class of 2011 - Original

S is taking Euro this afternoon. Now he is nervous! But, not too nervous that he couldn’t find time to watch The Office last night. He seemed to do pretty well on the practice tests and study guides I printed out. So I am hoping it is just a case of last minute butterflys.

He has Model UN and bball this weekend, but I hope he finds time to squeeze in some study time for the Eng test on Wed.

KLucky, sorry to read about your Mom. Holidays always seem to be the hardest.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mothers.

Sorry for your loss KLucky.

D and some friends are all going to the 1:30 pm showing of Iron Man. Glad to think of her having some fun.

For the first time ever, D asked me if I would call her in sick yesterday so she could study for the APUSH test today. She had physics and French tests yesterday and had not had a chance to catch up on all her classes - despite pulling close-to-allnighters - after coming off of stage crew for the spring musical. She was SO relieved when I agreed to do it. It was the first time she had ever made that request, and knowing how hard she was working made it easy for me to agree (I’m generally pretty strict about such things). So she’ll spend this weekend studying physics and French, with a brief break for Mother’s Day church and brunch.
KLucky - so sorry about your loss. I hope you can spend some time in your garden.

I hope everyone who had students headed off for AP’s today were able to get some sleep last night and eat a bit this morning (nervous stomachs…). We don’t have APUSH, but my sons about the only one of his friends (he has AP English, and AP Chem & Lab next week). They are all going to be doing the happy dance (literally) tonight when it’s over… prom :)

I think my house is ready for gf’s overnight. As the week went on, I began to realize I think I was more nervous for her mother to visit for a while than the gf being overnight. We have met, but have not spent a lot of time together. Some insecurities we never get over. My son hugged me last night when I was detailing the faucet in the kitchen (anyone who has followed this is now rolling at the irony here). He pointed out that if I was uncomfortable in my own home so would her mother. That promptly reminded me to put wine in the fridge!! :)

Happy friday everyone. Happy mother’s day! I wish you a peaceful one, with the year ahead… we certainly need it! :)

Blueiguana, LOL about the detailing. I would be the same way. I hope your S enjoys the prom.

Treasure that boy! Appreciative and insightful!

I got a good laugh from the 30 Rock reference, but my son, who at that point was sort of watching TV and sort of reading his APUSH book, did not. I suspect one of the writers has a student taking the exam today.

He had to be in at 7 am this morning with a dozen eggs. His APUSH class was meeting early to cook and eat breakfast together before the test. Hope they cleared the use of the electric frying pans with the school!

My son is taking the AP Euro test right about now. Their school day ends around 2:30, but this test will actually go until 3:30. I don’t quite understand how they can have a test, even if it is an AP one, that goes past the school day but that’s how it is. In our HS the AP’s are not offered until sophomore year and the first one that most of them take is APUSH. Juniors do AP Euro and Seniors take AP US Gov, and there is no going out of order. My son was studying quite a bit for it last night as well as this morning.

After school I’m picking him and his GF up and we’re going out to rent a tux for the prom! I’ve never done this before since my older son didn’t go. Any tux tips??

Some of you are so lucky that they give the AP tests for your children in the afternoon. Here, it is given agt 7:45, which is tough for the teenagers anytime, and on top of that, my poor son caught a bad cold and was literally unable to sleep most of last night due to the congestion, even after some cold medicine. He was so upset–AP History is probably his best chance for a 5.

Yesterday was AP English and next week an IB exam…so stressful right now!

^ The AP tests are administered at the same time at every school. Some tests are administered in the afternoon (Euro, Psych and Physics C are the ones I can remember).

Do you mean to say the same day Jersey or did you mean time? According to the College board site, they are done on certain days and either morning or afternoon.

Same time. [AP Central - 2010 Exam Calendar](Supporting Students from Day One to Exam Day – AP Central | College Board)

I’m a class of '11er. I took the AP U.S. history exam today. I know I can’t be very specific but I found the Multiple Choice refreshingly easy (verging on very easy) and the essays played right to my strengths given what we have focused most on this year. I feel very good about it!

Now I have English Lang and Psychology to study for!

CIA - my d also thought the exam wasn’t bad!! We’ll see how she feels after physics on Monday!

^^ Ran into one of the girls in my S’ class who just finished the APUSH exam. She thought it was hard…keeping fingers crossed that S will have a different feeling about it.

D thought APUSH was not as hard as her teacher had made it out to be. Apparently, her friends also agreed. This is a kid who doesn’t estimate her scores very well - we’ll see when we get them.

kathiep - we are going shopping for a dress for the prom tomorrow. Prom is next weekend - D wanted to go with friends, but could never get a date scheduled. Turns out now that all her friends already have dresses picked out and she has no one to go shopping with, but her mom. Oh the joy!!

^^Lucky you! I volunteered to drive D2 and her friend prom dress shopping, but she prefers to go sans mom. She is letting me pay though

This year’s APUSH exam was definitely one of the easiest administered tests to date.

You guys are right, the APUSH was EXTREMELY FAIR! All of the essay questions were managable and I only omitted two questions and guessed on maybe fix or six once i narrowed it down to three or two options. I am so pleased with my performance. I know I at least got a four.

I’m just relieved that my son finished his AP art portfolio in time. I had thought that would be easy compared to studying for a test but he worked on it until the very last minute. There’s a teacher that deserves a gift card! He also took computer science this week - one of only 3 kids in the whole district to take it (sad). English language next week. A bit eclectic, I’d say. Now if I could just convince him to consider a liberal arts college instead of just Purdue…
