Amanda - Pluhleezzz!!! On the rocks w/ salt! Good to know we will be living parallel lives through move in after sharing orientation with you. ;)

I feel a little more panic-stricken each time I see that countdown calendar and realize we will be on it soon! I was a commuter student in college and got married the following year, so never had the roommate experience. Can someone help me with the shared/split food concept? D and her roommate are talking about splitting things so they don’t each have a jar of peanut butter, etc. I certainly don’t have issue with her opening a bag of snacks and sharing it, or sharing a care package sent from home, etc. I’m just not sure how practical a shared “pantry” in a dorm room is.

^ Shared food can be tough because sometimes one roommate eats all the yogurt and the other eats all the cereal…that kind of thing. How much food will they “share”?
My guess is they will find what works and what doesn’t over the course of a couple of months.

It’s almost adult beverage time!

Almost? ;)

LOL, Amandakayak!
Momjr ~ Glad to hear your daughter will be ok!
OWM ~ Wishing you and your family a pleasant and safe trip!
Blueiguana ~ It’s so nice of you to take care of the roommate.

DS just received the keyboard case he ordered today, and I already thought the keyboard might not fit into the rented car without the case, so if it’s used, I am pretty sure it won’t.
Does anyone know the width of a standard car trunk?
Meanwhile, there is slow progress with a few important things done each day. Things like getting new glasses, haircut, etc…
All the stuff to bring is pretty much waiting in the dining area, now.
Wishing all the best to those dropping off their DS or DD this week!

**It sounds like this week’s universal teen aged theme is:

“P R O C R A S T I N A T I O N !”

IT SEEMS TO BE INVASIVE, INFECTIOUS AND IS SPREADING EVERYWHERE THAT NEW COLLEGE STUDENTS LIVE!**

I doubt there’s a standard, but if you won’t have passengers in all the seats in the back of the car, often one of the sides can be folded down to create an extension of the trunk for longer items. Maybe that would work?

We don’t leave until the 26th. By this Friday, D’s BF and all of her friends will have left so hopefully, she’ll have nothing to do but get ready! (Gosh, it makes my heart hurt to think of all those kids leaving. D’s class has been really special and I have a fondness for those kids that I don’t have for the kids in my Son’s or other D’s class.)

Celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary today and nursing DS2 after wisdom teeth extraction. Talking to him immediately post-op was one of the funniest moments I’ve ever had with him. I guess I should have figured a very gregarious outgoing kid would be impossible to shut up while high on IV anesthesia! So different from older brother who barely said two words and went to sleep. Just kicking myself that I didn’t have the flip cam with me, would have made for some priceless blackmail material :). We leave next Thur. at 6:00am, hope his face and mouth look normal by then!

fogfog, my BBB person here said I could add stuff but that I had to come back in.

AK- Love it!!!

I don’t know what I would do if I couldn’t come here and find out my D isn’t the only one sleeping all day and procrastinating. holliesue, she watched True Blood all night last night and she got herself a giant Tardis tattoo.

Woohoo, my last day of work for 2 weeks!

Tomorrow is S’s 18th birthday, and he and 7 friends are spending the day at six flags. I’m paying and driving carpool…not cheap, but not a bad deal–no clean up required!

All our major boxes have been packed, shipped UPS, and have arrived on Pomona Campus waiting for us.

Minor packing of S on Friday , major for me and hubby…
Fly to Cali on Saturday, MOVE IN Sunday…

And then Monday am Hubby & I head north to the Carmel/Montery area so I can fall apart at the seams and put myself pack together during a week by the ocean…

its really truly happening, isn’t it? Wow

today was my last day of work for the week. The next 3 days are organizing/packing stuff for D and then we head down on friday night for a Saturday a.m. move in! Of course I just realized that D bought on non-compliant microwave, so I will have to exchange it tomorrow. (seriously can she read sometimes???ha ha) can’t believe that this is really happening…

Ds picked up posters for his wall - star wars, halo, boondock saints and angry birds. That’s right, get a good chuckle.

Had our goodbye dinner with Grandpa and all the dds. Somehow forced him to pack the rest of his room. Could have been when I was breathing into a paper bag. Really, I started hyperventilating. Two large buckets, two milkcrate things filled with misc room stuff, 2 medium buckets, 2 saxophones (yes, two), 1 duffel, 1 backpack and 1 laundry bucket filled with the remaining things that didn’t fit anywhere else, a mini vacuum, a memory foam thing, and a comforter bag filled with that and all the bedding. No way could we fit any sibling. Youngest will be at “Grandpa Camp” and dd1 & dd2 will be home alone cleaning ds room and moving dd2 into it. I hope it will all be done when we get back on Thurs.

yalemom - Happy Anniversary!

yalemom - happy anniversary! Hope S recovers quickly.

I’ll take my cocktail with salt on the roks also.

Just found out that one of S’s books I bought on ebay 10 days ago just shipped. Nice. Guy was apologetic, but media mail is slow and he better hope it gets here in the next 4 days.

H was back to school shopping with 11yo D today at the outlets. He picked up a rolling duffle from Samsonite for S but now thinks it was a waste of money. For whatever reason he thinks it is TOO big. hahahaha I think 2 of the wheeled duffles wiould be too small for all the stuff S is bringing out to school.

**♪♫Happy 25th Anniversary to Mr. & Mrs. Yalemom15 ♪♫
**

Do not forget to pick up those local gift cards, for the care packages will be sending in the fall :)

Happy Anniversary and best wishes to all nursing sick and recovering kids.

Joining the camp of “D leaves Friday and not a stitch of clothes are packed”. At least all of the non-clothes items are packed, or are in a reasonable proximity of each other.

While I was at work today, I called D on her cell since she didn’t answer the house phone. “Where are you?” “At the bf’s house”. Me: “Did you put away the 4 baskets of clean clothes that were washed from camp?” D:“Not yet. I am resting.” excuse me? There is no resting allowed! I told her that we couldn’t do any shopping until the clothes were all put away. When I got home, she was busily putting away her clean clothes.

We went to BBB after I got home to get a few things- a fan and a tea kettle. It was amusing to watch the parents with their college age kids attempting to pick out items. We also did some minor clothes and shoe shopping, and had a nice dinner out with just the 2 of us.

Tomorrow, she has doctor’s appointments, lunch with a friend, and a high school “yearbook pick up cookout?”. Apparently, the yearbook editor sent an FB invite telling the kids “if you can’t be there to pick it up, we are not going deliver or hold them at the high school, so you need to get someone else to get it for you.” D only had 70 kids in her class, and the town is about 2 square miles in size. She will most likely just pop in, get the yearbook, and leave, She is so ready to go to college.

Thursday is reserved for clothes packing, and our 26th anniversary. We are all going out to dinner to celebrate our anniversary and D leaving for college, even though hubby only wanted to he and I to go out. I told him that I can see him any day, but D only leaves for college for the first time once.

Happy anniversary yalemom. It’s our anniversary today too. It’s been a great day. We’re on our second day of our journey from FL to Boston. Yesterday we visited family in jacksonville. Today we were in Savannah. We went to the history museum and took a 90 minute tour around the city. We had dinner with family including DH ex-wife. Tomorrow we’ll be in Raleigh visiting my college friend.

You rock FlMathMom! I’m just trying to get to move in day and you planned a magical vacation tour for your family on the way…drumroll…and have dinner with the ex-wife! You’re amazing!!

Happy anniversary to you and yalemom. Hope it was sweet. :)

Edit: okay, I’m leaving the above because it’s late and I’m laughing for some reason (lack of sleep maybe?). Obviously I realize that you and yalemom are not a couple, I was trying to wish you both a happy anniversary with you individual spouses.

Gotcha BI. You made me laugh. I love planning espec vacations. It has been really great with iPad. I could do a commercial.
