Momophony - we were also up late doing some online ordering & shipping that stuff straight toQ campus. It’ll be there when we arrive… yay! Finally got D to cross off even more items on a big ‘possible stuff for college’ list. Its now very close to where it needs to be with the plan pretty much set for what will be purchased locally.

Apparently she may not need much in the way of extra storage items purchased after our arrival. We found out her room (and most of that dorm?) has captain’s beds. That means there are two drawers built into the bottom of each bed and the beds can’t be adjusted any higher on their bed poles.(not a lofted bed, just higher off the ground to create extra storage space underneath) So not even sure yet if she & the roomie will be able to move the beds much if they’re really heavy with the built-ins.

Hoping the online ordering & all the decision making last night provides serious motivation for her to finish (or start?!) making decisions about which clothes she’s taking with her.

In other college-related developments, I may now be a stranger’s interstate drug mule.

mihcal–what a special event to be at. Wonderful!

We went to the local reception for S college yesterday. It was informative and fun. We are very glad we did it. It does really make the reality sink in a bit more. 12 days until we hit the road. What was nice to hear at the reception is that the RA’s do official Target and other shopping runs with the freshman during orientation week to make sure they have everything they need. For some reason, this made me feel much more at ease since S is not taking a car to CA.

Thanks for showing me the link to the music peeps, Mizz Bee. I am going to need that one in the future!

I’ve been lurking for awhile and decided it was time to post. My son launches Saturday 8/18 at Vanderbilt. It’s really starting to hit me hard and I hope I can make it through the next two weeks. He’s ready but I’m finding it hard to believe we’re already at this point. I thought I was mentally prepared but have realized over the past few days I’m not. Fortunately, he’s only going to be two hours from home and we should get to see him a couple of times before the end of the first semester.

Grrr, 18 year-olds. DH and I have been nagging DD for the last couple of weeks to take her car in for an oil change and safety inspection before leaving for college on Wednesday. So when did she finally take it in? Today. Guess what, it has a safety related issue (loose tie rod) that our garage can’t address today (already overbooked) and can’t address tomorrow because their alignment tech will be off. Had to settle for fixing it early Wednesday, followed by departure which we hope will be only slightly later than planned.

Cross words were exchanged. I so hope that the lesson is getting across. The reason parents are such old fussbudgets about taking care of business, getting things done ahead of time, etc., is because we’ve experienced the bad consequences of being careless and letting things slide in our own lives. Maybe every generation has to learn this stuff by bitter experience. Still, we wish we could shortcut the learning process for our kids.

It’s a list of acceptances but if you scroll way to the right and look at the “attending” tab, there is a “yes” by the school they chose.

I did a quick copy/paste sorted by where they are actually going so you can get an idea:

Cool list! I’m wondering if the ones attending U of north TX are mostly jazz players. The UNT jazz band program always gets raves. They’ve won at least one Grammy over the years but have been nominated more than once.

woody - I have already voted - open the bag and drop in a surprise. And for heavens sake don’t forget to check the liner - lol

There are three types living in this house… Today we got the letter in the mail telling the move in time and all info about moving in. S opened - saw the green tags, and not knowing anything about just said - cool, green. And tossed the letter aside.

I picked it up, saw that green meant move in between 12 - 4 (yay! I wanted afternoon move in - because I’ve actually thought about the logisitics), and I actually read the letter in it explaining the process.

Hubby saw it - glanced at the letter, but folded up all the info and put it away in the envelope that I need to grab from him and hang on the bulletin board before it’s “filed” away in some mystery place.

Then I was telling them - the afternoon will be easier so we can leave later in the day on wednesday - I can do payroll, drop d off at a friends, take the dog to the kennel, then we can drive the 7 - 9 hours and just go straight to the hotel and get our stuff out of the car to make more room. Next morning we can sleep in a little, eat breakfast and go to bb&b to pick up our stuff. Plus convocation is at 5 so we don’t have to leave and come back.

S just looked at me. H says, I forgot about the dog, you better make reservations. I’m telling you they drive me to be this controlling planner.

woody–younger S is already looking at UNT as a possibility as a bassist. At this point he wants to do jazz and classical. Their head bass prof is wonderful. S has worked with him at bass camp. It is great to hear good stuff about them.

eyemamom - we got green too, although I think since S is flying out on the 19th and getting his room then, we’ll just move him in when we get to town on the night before official move in. But I’ll make sure to pop over and say hello in the afternoon!

Hey Woody - good luck with the road trip. Let me know if I should be making up one of the spare bedrooms for you - serious! I have too much room and too few kids these days!

Hello, everyone!
I have already had a pre-launch with DS when he went for summer term, if anyone remembers, and we are getting ready to re-launch. He will be attending University of Central Florida, if you want to add him to the list, on 8/17.

I do have a funny roommate story from his summer term. He was sharing a suite in the dorms with 3 other young men, and they all moved in on the same day. Jacob and one of the roommates were the first there, and the roommates mom was also there. While we were unpacking their kitchen utensils, etc-roommates mom informed me that roommate was kosher, and she had brought all of his meat with her and it was in the freezer. She also let me know that roommate needed to keep his kitchenware seperate.

That was fine-I figured the roommate would tell DS also, but I told her I would let DS know. I talked to my son and relayed the information regarding roommates dietary rules.

Not a big deal-then later that weekend when all of the roommates were in the suite, they were joking about nicknames and they nicknamed roommate #1 “Kosher”.
He asked why, and DS told him-because your mom said you are kosher and gave us all of the rules regarding your food.

Roommate told DS that he wasn’t kosher, and hadnt been for years. That he had learned from his sister and brother already at college to tell his mom that he was, since kosher cost more and she would give him more money. Then he happily made chicken alfredo for everyone.

Ay yi yi. I was speechless, seriously. It is kind of a funny story, but that poor mom. It was a learning opportunity for DS about please don’t lie to your parents!

I’m pretty sure I’m gonna bring back a wacky parent of roommate story from move-in. Actually, I already have one but I’m waiting to see if it’s gonna be topped at move-in.

I’m not sure it can be but I’ll keep my hopes high. Wackaloons need entertainment, you know! And I haven’t even been around all the other parents yet. Maybe there’ll be enough Qu@ker role models on campus during move-in that everybody will remain calm and stress-free.

My son passed his state real estate license exam today. Yay!
