Parents of the HS Class of 2019 (Part 1)

@mom2twogirls I don’t mind postponing romantic entaglements at all but I would enjoy personal hygenie improvements. I trust both with come someday.

S19 has just a couple weeks left of summer and still has a good portion of his assignments to complete. Honestly, he takes more “breaks” than he does actual work.

Another another note, he performed in a musical last weekend and the show was fabulous. Two more performances this weekend.

D’19 doesn’t have any summer assignments. We did just get her out of district approval so now we know she’ll be able to go to the same high school for another year! Good thing as our zoned high school is terrible and doesn’t have rowing.

D’19 and I have been volunteering a bit this summer and she has taken a few art classes and some self defense classes.

Over the next month we have to make 3 trips up and down the east coast (7-9 hours one way) taking our older 2 kids to and from their colleges. Good thing we got new tires this spring.

First day of school here. I don’t think that DS19 was ready to go back.

D19 is not ready for the school to start either. I can’t wait for the school to start though. I don’t have to be after them for their keeping daily routine and personal hygiene once the school starts

Wow @MichiganGeorgia ! Let us know how the day goes! Im glad we still have another month of summer here.

DS19’s day went fine. Although he did end up with a bunch of homework. DS17 didn’t have any homework, Go figure.

Yeah, it’s always hard to predict first day homework.

First day of school is this coming Monday. Last year, I felt like homework didn’t kick in to it’s usual frenzy until about the third week. I hope that’s the case again. Late August definitely still feels like summer here!

Our first day is Tues. Homework always starts with a vengeance within the first few days. I’m hoping that he doesn’t have any over the following weekend as we will be driving DS16 to college on Sunday.

Good luck, @carolinamom2boys, with the dropoff. We’ll be thinking of you! So happy for S16 and his great choice. :x

I vaguely remember last year that it felt like a couple of classes piled on more homework the first couple of weeks (thinking especially of English and social studies)

How far from home is the college @carolinamom2boys ? I hope it’s a great drop off!

School here in MA doesn’t start for a few weeks. Son has soccer tryouts before school starts and his robotics group is starting to get together again. He has finished his reading for the summer and he finished an online class for IOS app development. He liked that. Money well spent. Gained a skill, learned something new, something productive for the summer. Just went and got him a haircut and picked up some school supplies, so he is now ready.

@mom2twogirls He is going to school about 3 1/2 hours away

School begins next week. S19 is trying to finish up his summer assignments. From what he says, he’s ahead of his friends. Maybe my nagging helped. He’ll take a break from homework in a bit and then we’re off to buy him some new shoes. Registration is Thursday. I know he’s looking forward to seeing his friends. Many of them spent the summer away at dance intensives.

We still have a month left but S19 needs to start on summer HW when he gets back from his 50 miler next weekend and before he goes to NYLT.

School starts for us Monday as well. D19 has finished APUSH summer homework, and has read and annotated White Noise for American Lit class. All that remains is a 2-3 page essay on said book. Proud of her as she is way ahead of where I thought she would be. I was picturing being up til well past midnight Sunday night/Monday morning to get everything done, but it looks like she will be done in plenty of time.

Schools starts Wednesday here. The Honors English homework is done, the Honors Math is in progress. S19 is in band camp so we will tackle that this weekend. There was a hitch in the schedule; the Honors Math is only offered the same time as Jazz Band, so his GC said that he can take the class in the non-honors section, do the extra Honors work and his GPA and transcript will reflect it. Win-win

Had orientation the other night. Of course, without schedules it was kind of pointless. Here are all the teachers–feel free to ask them anything. Um, well since I have no idea which teachers we have… Kind of walked around the school to get a feel for things, but again, since we don’t know classes I don’t think it was that helpful for S19. Ah well, I guess he’ll figure it out Monday. It just seems like they could reduce a lot of stress by having things done ahead of time.
