Parents of the HS Class of 2020 (Part 1)

Taking classes online doesn’t mean there won’t be students on campus. Many college are doing primarily online or hybrid - with [some/most/any that want to] students on campus.

“They put money in a pot and they try to get COVID. Whoever gets COVID first gets the pot,” she said.

“It makes no sense.”

Strengthens the case to cancel the game against USC on Sept 5?

I wouldn’t let a sensational news story about a few idiot kids and a party dictate whether a mulit-billion dollar industry like NCAA D1 football should or should not happen.

The only way the game gets cancelled is if most of the players, coaches, or referees get CV-19 right before the game and they have no other choice than to cancel it.

Pro sports are moving forward with games: NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, PGA, etc and so to will D1 college football especially in the Power 5 conferences.

Here are a couple of articles about USC football. A lot has changed in the past week but it shows what was planned for moving athletes back to campus.

Are they allowing students to take a gap semester?

Dell 2-in-1 arrived today and O. is having a ball trying out all the bells and whistles. She loves it, so glad it is a hit.

"Pac-12 officials are evaluating options for a postponed football season in the wake of COVID-19 surges in a number of states that are home to member schools. "

Social media is fair game in the holistic process.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/colleges-rescinding-admissions-offers-racist-185530110.html

“In some cases, the revoked admissions offers are the results of concerted efforts by teenagers who have leveraged large social media followings and created Google spreadsheets to collect and document racist and offensive behavior with screenshots, videos and the names of those involved.”

It’s unclear at this point.

There’s so much money involved to cancel these sports but who knows?

For those that didn’t notice, just under LATEST POSTS it now says FORUM INDEX which will bring you to a list of options similar to what CC used to look like. https://talk.categories.collegeconfidential.com/

The first domino has fallen. Hard to have sports this fall when students are limited in their presence on campus. What will the Power 5 do?

The Power 5 conferences have too much money to lose to not play football this season. It might be pushed back until spring but highly unlikely these conferences billion dollar industry will be shutdown this year.

FYI, University of Denver emailed S20 with his AP scores. APMacro-5, APMicro-4, APGovt-5 and APLit-3. He’s a little irritated with the 3, but he had been irritated with his teacher all year. Lit was only worth an English elective, so not a big deal. He’s excited to be able to jump into 2000 level econ (one of his planned majors).

He got his AP scores already?

@suzyQ7 Yes, the College Board must have released scores to colleges. DU sent an email this afternoon with his results. Not sure if DU jumped the gun, but I know AP teachers and colleges get the results b4 the students.

S20 was very surprised to get the email, as he was expecting the results from CB next week. Good news, is he can get serious on building his schedule.

Teachers aren’t getting them yet, at least I’m not…

“An anonymous Power 5 athletic director told me in early April that if there is no football season, “We’re all f-----. There’s no other way to look at it, is there?” Three months later, those words land with increased weight.”

No students on campus, no football this fall. Would having dorms occupied justify it?

All 14 SEC colleges will open their campuses up in the fall and the SEC commissioner just said that the Ivy Leagues decision "… isn’t any inflection point for decision making (for the SEC)”

If the SEC thinks they can play the games safely, it looks like they plan on having football in the fall. There has also been talk of moving the season to spring, maybe if conditions worsen. Time will tell…
