@inthegarden - do NOT worry. One typo is forgivable. Things happen. Everyone knows even more this year than most that we are all simple humans and we are all taking one day at a time.
Now don’t look at it again! ???

(Warning, off-topic) Doesn’t help my mood that I went to early voting today and when I reached the front of the line in a narrow hallway (about to enter the voting room that had far too many people for my comfort level, btw) an election volunteer snapped at me several times to move up closer to the doorway. Well, “closer” (Where she was pointing for me to stand) happened to be within two feet of her. She was, in fact, blocking the doorway, so she didn’t mean for me to move past her into the room and SHE WAS WEARING NO MASK! She was only wearing a stupid face shield that would do nothing to protect others…it didn’t even extend down to her mouth level! I told her that I am trying to social distance and I’ll move forward when I can walk into the room. She kept insisting until, finally, I had to say to her pointedly, “Every American has a duty to vote, and the right to feel safe while doing that, and you are not wearing a mask… I will move up when you move back.” She looked at me as if I have six heads. The virus, in fact, has started spiking in my small community (50 new cases since Monday). Sheesh. I hope my candidate wins.
@inthegarden I agree to give yourself grace and let it go. I think AO’s reading it will. We are living through Covid for Pete’s sake. And speaking of that, good for you for speaking up when voting.
D21 now has four complete CA essays, says she hates all of them, and is starting over. Has some Nov. 1 EA deadlines. Works 20 hours between now and then, plus school and homework.
I need to try to breathe and keep a pleasant face. I’m so doggone frustrated.
@inthegarden good chance the reader will be in a hurry and might not even notice. Even if they do, one typo is not a big deal I’d expect in the overall picture painted by the app. Good luck to your D!
I am getting very tense. D21’s EA and ED apps are both due Sunday. Everything is done except the EA supplemental essay. But, she has a ton of stressful homework. And 2 more major school essay deadlines not long after the EA/ED deadlines. When can we all start to relax a bit?
She’s an IB candidate so there’s no real opportunity for senioritis with May IB exams. All this with 100% online learning at 50% instructional time. And no social life to speak of. Ugh. (Sorry, just needed to vent! None of my friends understand why we care/stress so much about academics.)
@Creaky I was in the exact same spot with D21. She was trying to create a clever narrative instead of just letting her good ideas flow. She scrapped essay #7 and it was idea #8 that was her final product. The process was not smooth or pretty but she did get there, and so will your D. You will sleep well on Sunday night.
6 AP exams registered and paid for. Lit, Art History, Gov, Macro, physics C: mech/ EM. D is only taking the exams for credit she will be using.
How do you know she will receive credit for these? Did you check each of her schools? I don’t think any of D’s list takes AP Lang or Lit for credit.
First two EA applications submitted! Two more almost ready to go and will be submitted tonight or tomorrow. I am second guessing a few of S21’s choices in this process (sending 25%ile scores to a reach school may end up hurting him and I also didn’t love one of his supplemental answers). But, he feels confident about his decisions which is matters the most. I’m just relieved that he’s gotten this far finally!
@TVBingeWatcher2 5 AP tests registered for. Psych, Bio, Econ, Latin and Stats. @homerdog at the large public universities my daughter is applying for the do give credits for most AP classes so long as you score a 3 or better. That said my premed/nursing student will probably take Bio again and not take the credits.
First three EA apps submitted! It feels good to have it off of D21’s plate. One more EA supplement to finish and send, and ED app being submitted on Monday.
I wonder how many of our 21s will end up at the same schools? Fun to think about!
@homerdog I have a whole spreadsheet on what each school takes! AP Spanish Lit is the only test that won’t get her any credit at her top three, so she may decide not to take that. AP English Lit is worthless at one school, but if she gets a 3 at the other two, she’ll get credit for English 102 (she’s got credit for 101 from Lang). Edit - and AP Gov gets her nothing at one school, but credit at the other 2, so she’s going to take that one too.
The two most important APs for D will be AB Calc and French. At many of her schools, they fulfill requirements she would like to check off!
I came home last night to five girls siting on my kitchen floor (we have construction going on so there are not many places for them all to fit together!) working on applications. I walked in and they all said help, we have so many questions! I cold help with some but I am afraid to give advice on some others.
What do you guys think about this one. One girl is the most likely valedictorian (won’t know 10% until December), 1540 SAT, science olympiad awards, etc. She sent her two EA reach applications last week because she thought it would look good if she got them in early. Then she thought of two things she could have added - one being a professional research paper she is working on (wasn’t clear if they are trying to get it published or what) and she had heard she could have included the abstract in the Additional Information section. The other is that she found out this week that she go President of a school club which she has been in and on the board all 4 years. I told her I had no idea if those were important enough to send an email to the admissions person - the president thing I would definitely say not important enough, but the paper I didn’t know. I was inclined to say it might annoy the admissions person, but they are her reaches and her favorites so I don’t know if every little thing could help? She is working with an outside college counselor and texted her, she used to work at the school, she is good but not great.
As for D21 she has her essay pretty much done, wants a little help with the first line and the closing paragraph. She has one supplemental that needs a tiny bit of help but it’s a safety so I’m not going to worry too much and another that is not even started but it’s a school she added at the last minute.
@homerdog Tulane gives credit for AP Lit if I remember correctly. It doesn’t get you out of their writing requirement but you get to skip the intro course.
How annoyed does Admissions get about contacting them? I don’t think I’d make a habit of D or me contacting them often, but it seems like websites/correspondence often encourage “if you have any questions” to contact. Do they not really mean it?
@1Lotus I think they mean it when you have questions, but I wasn’t sure if they wanted kids to constantly send emails with small updates to their applications. I remember D19 had to email with the rep at U Richmond because our school sends us quarter grades but does not sent them to colleges. She had to talk to him about how to get him her updated grades even if they weren’t official.
OK, dumb question time. If the EA application deadline is November 1, does that mean it’s due at 11:59 PM on November 1, or if it’s sent on November 1, it’s late? I’m guessing the former.
Also, still waiting on DD’s teacher to upload a recommendation.
Nothing like waiting until the last minute, right?
Thanks for everyone’s help and comments.
Congrats - that’s so exciting! We are anxiously awaiting that first acceptance!
congrats!!
