Received a text at 1:24am from D24, saying her ED/EA applications have been submitted! She still has a rolling admission sheâll submit this week, a portfolio to submit to one school (she has a few more days until the portfolio deadline) and interviews to schedule. I really thought sheâd be down to the last minute tonight, so feeling very relieved!
At our high school, counselors automatically send first quarter/midterm grades unless student tells them not to. Not sure if all colleges look at them.
I will be here with you. Iâve encouraged D24 to get all of her apps done now that she has the momentum. I am hoping weâre done by 12/1.
Our s24 has 2 due on 11/15 and UCâs for 11/30 and 2 due on Jan 1st and he may add 1 or 2 more to Jan 1st. so I will be here also.
What is the SRAR issue and have you tried contacting SRAR instead of Rutgers? We had a few issues with it properly linking and at one point having two emails in the system, and they were very quickly (same day) able to fix the issue on their end. It was an email to the help desk though (no phone) and it wasnât last day of deadline so they may be more backlogged than a month ago.
The issue ended up being a wider one with Rutgers single-sign on log-in to the application portal. It seems to have been resolved.
Phew! Daughter submitted REA this morning. Plus 3 state schools over the weekend and 1 more by tonight. Then 5 more RD due in January. I am tired but she is exhausted. Caught a cold (of course!!) and college apps plus rigorous schedule has been quite the challenge. I just want her to feel like she put her best foot forward. She knows the REA is a reach no matter what, but she wanted to try.
This is my third time around with college applications, but S18 applied to 3 and S19 to only 2 (and wouldnât let us look or be involved at all lol - he was choosing NMF full rides so we tried to be cool with it) D24 has eclipsed both brothers by far, both in terms of number of schools researched and amount of input she wanted. Thankfully a break ahead before D27 starts her search! Good luck to all!!
My main concern is he might get deferred, and then he will have to decide whether he wants to ED II at a second-choice. But we shall cross that bridge when and if it happens.
I think we have discussed this before but it is 100% what we are thinking about. Fortunately D24âs REA only defers a small percentage of applicants. But there is also no noticeable boost for REA. Application is in and we are now waiting on mid December for answers.
Thatâs actually part of the reason for the Thanksgiving college visits. S24 has a current lead contender for ED II, but the last two colleges we are visiting also offer it. Of course he might hate them both (this would be a good thing in the sense he already has enough colleges). But having learned what he likes from other visits, they are both on paper strong contenders for at least RD and possibly ED II (if they can knock off the current champ).
All of which has me very much rooting either for accept or reject and not deferral from his REA (assuming the REA application gets submitted, tick tock). I am mostly an ED skeptic myself, but I think he would feel good about choosing an ED II school if we get to that phase.
We are doing one last visit to what is right now S24âs first choice school in a couple of weeks. The others to which he applied were seen in âless than perfectâ conditions but his first choice was seen on one of those absolutely perfect days; sunny, low 70s, slight breeze, flowers and greenery in full bloom.
He decided he would like to see it as it will most likely be most of the school year; cold and without the greenery to make sure he really likes the school and wasnât just seduced by perfect weather. DH and I decided it was worth the cost of the trip to make sure (weâd rather spend another $1.5k or so on a visit than multiple tens of thousands next year if it isnât the right place).
Definitely a good idea. Iâd also love to specifically request low-personality tour guides, but I think they might take it poorly.
And S24 submitted his REA application! Actual hours early! Quite the relief.
The Rutgers portal worked today, and D24 was able to link her SRAR to it. She has some RD apps to work on, but will take a little break before completing them. Sheâs feeling relieved that her early apps are in and portals set up, so now I guess we wait.
ED Application submitted. 2 EA applications submitted - 1 supplement to go for a final EA app! We are seeing the light!
D24 allowed me to read over her final essay drafts - and I was SO immensely proud of her. None of it was what I would have done, nor was much of it what I suggested, but it was perfectly in her own voice, with things SHE cares about. Sometimes we think they need us (and they do!) and sometimes they just shine their own light,(in their own timeframe!) and it is a beautiful part of the process that makes the âpainâ worth it!
Good luck to those of you âŠswitching EA/ ED schoolsâŠScheduling more visits⊠Plowing through RD apps and additional arts/ music supplements. I will be joining you in the RD apps in a few weeks but for nowâŠwine.
Congrats to all those with kids getting the apps in last night! Whew!
My daughter had hers in already, but had a big scholarship application due 10/31. She finished a day early and is happy with her submission. Now we wait.
She doesnât have anything due until 12/1, so we are taking a couple weekends off working on anything college. She really needs some down time and wants to get some project work done. I know the days before Thanksgiving break will be very busy at school, but Iâm hoping she can wrap everything up during break and be done with the early Dec. deadlines. Iâm ready to be done!
S is already hitting senoritis! Isnt it too early for that? Today he said he wanted to stay home cause he needs a break. I eventually convinced him to go but it was a battle. He has good friends and in general has always liked school so this came out of the blue. I am wondering if its the combination of finishing the EAs/ED and the maxed out rigor wise courses that he is taking.
Do your schools have senior skip day(s)? We have multiple. Apparently they are approved even. They are a nice break for the kids though.
That sounds like a great idea! I have not heard of senior skip days. I have allowed him to stay home if he is not feeling well (physically or mentally) but his exact reason was âhe is sick of school, not having funâ which I didnt think cut it. His Q1 report cards are supposed to come out soon so I didnt want him to miss anything for upcoming tests.
I know we have one the day after the Superbowl. My daughter fully intends to take advantage of itâŠgo to bed early and sleep in. She is not a football lover! But in all likelihood she will also work on school stuff while home. Just a change of scenery.
She typically enjoys school and wants to go, so missing a day here or there is fine. Iâve let the kids do mental health days too. Just need a break from stress at school.
Completely agree on the mental health days. Iâve allowed both of my kids to take those throughout their high school years.
