Parents -- Stop Obsessing, Start Encouraging

Dont know to whom that insult is directed. But a gentle reminder that this is the parents forum.

Oh right this is the Parents Forum. Whoops.

I’m perfectly fine with people not respecting certain colleges; I’m guilty of it myself. I just don’t think you should so readily put them down and call them names. Every college with a student body is the right fit for someone.

If you don’t want your opinion to be challenged, don’t share it on the Internet. :)

For the record, I did not post this in the parents forum.

Yeah, I think it was moved here from College Search & Selection. It’s not a featured thread, and I only browse CS&S and Test Prep so I wouldn’t have seen it otherwise.

Am guessing it got moved here because the title of the thread was directed at the parents. But regardless-- you guys are here. So, behave ;)

So I think we can all agree on some stuff beneath all the disagreements:

Both parents and students should take an active role in college decisions, with neither side absolutely taking over the other one (since it’s the students’ education and the parents’ money, usually)

Colleges should be examined on the basis of individual interests, not just general rankings produced by USNWR/ARWU/THE/etc.

People don’t suddenly become different people based on the college they went to, and it’s bad to attack them based on their alma mater

So that should probably wrap the thread up, personal disagreements aside.

/thread

Based on many of the posts here, one would never have realized that.

@fluffy2017‌ Because this thread wasn’t on the Parents Forum when it started.

If OP wrote this much earlier, I think we would know much earlier why he has such a strong dislike toward these 8 colleges.

Let’s see, we’ve got crazy left-wing Northern Ivies populated with uppity women, gays and atheists, and wildly right-wing Southern bastions of football and frats populated with Bible thumpers and women who know their place, and never the twain shall meet–which is okay by me. Good night.
