Parents -- Stop Obsessing, Start Encouraging

Some of the Ivies are pretty conservative…in any case, I had a feeling this was what the whole thing was about. Extremism is pretty predictable these days.

sorry, but that is not likely a widely held experience. Thanks for the amusement, though. I did LOL. Would love to be a fly on the wall during a “discussion” of some of the hotter topics (pregnancy termination, same sex marriage, etc). But lets NOT discuss that here.

@BadgerState‌ Ted Cruz went to Yale. He had no trouble finding a Parli partner. He had no trouble being able to compete. And the most respected faction of the Yale Political Union is a conservative one.

How much experience have you had with Ivies, other than visiting? They’re not liberal powerhouses and they certainly don’t make students liberal. Yes, faculty at most colleges do tend to be liberal because the Democratic Party just has a much more solid appeal to academia (it’s kind of tough to tell someone who’s extensively studied science that anthropogenic climate change is a lie or that gay therapy is legit and not horrible or that evolution is up for debate). Conservatives go to Ivies all the time. Conservatives do well at Ivies. And (as the article I linked four pages or so ago demonstrates) liberal ideas are definitely not pushed at Ivies.

Just so you know- “God Is Not Dead” wasn’t a documentary. That sort of stuff doesn’t happen IRL.

The Ivies have flourishing conservative organizations. Liberty-level schools, on the other hand, are the ones that ban clubs just for not aligning with the “character” of the university. The ones with the persecution complex are the ones responsible for most of the repression here; it’s kind of like the homophobes who think that straight people are in danger of the Dominionists who claim Christianity is under attack.

Regardless, this will be my last comment in this thread. It needs to die, and it’s tough to convince a blind man the sky is blue.

topkek. When they call you out on being a conceited ■■■■■■■, accuse them of bias. I see how this guy deals with the world.

You make generalizations, I make generalizations. I see no difference here.

The only thing that separates us is that I’m a conservative on a highly left-wing forum.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/answer-sheet/wp/2014/05/31/bloomberg-at-harvard-blasts-ivy-league-liberals-for-trying-to-repress-conservative-ideas/

oh please. OP you started this thread lecturing parents about “obsessing” and berating the ivies. Now you are crying political minority? Come on. This is silly.

Trust me, this is not a “highly left-wing forum.” But it is a place that thrives when people engage in discussions with respect and level-headedness.

BadgerState, thank you for being open–finally–about what is really driving you: right-wing religious ideology.

Now a lot makes more sense.

One thing puzzles me though. I looked up the book on Amazon, and read the reviews. It sounds quite fascinating. It also sounds as if it has virtually nothing to do with Ivy League schools. But I guess the ovsessed person sees the object of his obsession everywhere.

@Consolation Actually, you’re quite wrong. Several chapters were dedicated to the topic.

Okay. None of the reviewers mentioned it. Apparently they didn’t see it as the focus of the book.

Well said, Sally.

Never claimed it was the focus on the book. It is discussed heavily for a couple or three chapters. Read it.

So this thread was a thinly veiled slam on NE liberals. This kind of myopic thinking is what gives the south its bad reputation. Maybe more conservatives should stay up north and teach them the evil of their ways.

@jym626 Not exactly. I made statements and certain people turned it into an attack. If you go back to the first couple pages, you will see I was not the instigator. It was insecure adults who cannot handle anyone bringing down their Universities. I can handle it. People give people crap about the SEC all the time, I’ve learned to deal with it. I simply refute it without resorting to call other people “conceited ■■■■■”.

Maybe kinesiology is difficult, but arguing with a liberal is even tougher.

South AND Midwest, in this case. :(

@BadgerState‌ I didn’t call you a conceited ****. CC’s filters changed it to that. I would never settle for an insult that’s only four letters long.

Whatever. Can we please let this thread die? It’s entirely personal attacks now.

@Roger_Dooley‌ can y’all close this? It’s only going to get worse.

First of all, the first several pages seem to be filled with posts claiming most every parent is misunderstanding you. I think we understand just fine. The poster engaging in the namecalling with you is not a parent. The attack was started in the middle of the first post.

And then you proceed to dig into my thinking for the next eight pages because you cannot accept that any human being wouldn’t respect Ivy League colleges. It’s my ■■■■■■■ opinion. If you don’t like it, then get the ■■■■ out.

Well, we’ve all certainly learned a great deal about the OP, haven’t we?
