I am a current sophomore at OSU, and I think you will miss out on all of the great things about college if you look at college as just a set of classes to be endured, rather than a great opportunity to be experienced. I miss my family sometimes, but I appreciate that moving away from home has made me more independent, and more confident in my ability to do things for myself.

I love going here, and I could ramble on forever about how OSU is a great place for nearly everyone, simply because it is so large. There is a club or group for every interest, a huge number of classes, majors, and minors, and great internship and job potential.

Living in the dorms, while sometimes cramped, is how most people find their best friends in college, and I think choosing to commute makes socializing a lot more difficult. I made some of my best friends within the first few hours of moving in my freshman year, and while I now live off campus, I still think dorm life is great.

OSU has both a vibrant student life and great academics, and I can’t imagine wanting to give that up to go to a lesser school closer to home. I think your mom recognizes that you will have a better college experience, not to mention better job opportunities, if you go to a better school, and she wants that for you.
