Parents Weekend -- So annoyed

Just venting here. The Parents weekend registration became available on Wednesday morning. Went on today and almost everything worth doing is sold out, no football tickets, no Broadway dinner, no 11:30 brunch. Very disappointing that they don't plan for the kind of response they get.

I had the same problem. I fully intended to go online on Wednesday but it slipped my mind. Very frustrating. I signed up for the weekend and it cost $45--I assume that covers both my H and myself. Right?

Yes, I did the same thing- it covers the registration fee for the family. I don't think it really gets us anything to pay the $45 but I thought maybe they would make more tickets available later possibly and so I did it.

For those of you parents who have not been to the Hill Auditorium, the Symphonic Band Concert on Friday night might be worth your time.

Good suggestion. Actually there appear to be a number of non-ticketed events that will be fun to go to, so I am less annoyed than before. I'm sure I'll find football tickets eventually.

The Hill Auditorium is one of the best concert halls in the country. Built in 1913 with a seating capacity of over 4000, there is not a bad seat in the house. The acoustic is perfect...you can literally hear a pin drop. I still remember sitting way up in the balcony listening to The Arbors (a male quartet) signing a capella without a mic.

I've been dying to see the Hill Auditorium after its $40M renovation.

Future advice - get your football tickets the day they go on sale in August through the U of M Athletics website. Don't wait for the Parents Weekend mailing. Also, if you plan to go anyplace nice for dinner make your reservations now. Restaurants are packed for breakfast and dinner. Hopefully everyone who plans to be there has already made their hotel reservations.

I had a list of 3 reasons why I'd go to U-M over some other places. Hill was one of my top reasons.

I had the privilege of playing there (yeah yeah I'm bragging but that just shows how much respect I have for it!) and dear god, I still can't believe that I was on that stage everytime I go back.

so is parent's weekend that big? This is my 3rd year and I still haven't heard anything about it except my parents asking if they should come...

Since you are no longer a freshman Parents Weekend is not really a big deal and your parents would be better off coming another time to visit - the hotels and restaurants in Ann Arbor will be alot less crowded.
