My parents are looking into coming for Parent's weekend, but before they'll book the tickets, they need to know exactly when to come since they're traveling 3,000 miles.

I know it's October 27-29, but what time does it start and end on those days? Is it worth coming for the first day or what not? They'll probably end up flying out on the 26th and leaving either late on the 29 or on the 30. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

gcards1~we loved Parents' Weekend. There are things going on all day Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Some are repeated, so as to give several groups an opportunity. They can sit in on classes, get tours of the Duke Gardens, Nasher Museum, campus tours, etc. There are performances of the various arts groups throughout the weekend, as well as many sports events, depending on the sports calendar, of course.

I flew down and arrived at the campus around noon on Friday. (H and S2 drove down after work/school). I met S1 for lunch, and while he was at class I had my choice of several tours (some of which you sign up for in advance), wandering around or watching the first open men's basketball practice--I chose the practice (I love bb) and my son came after his class. We got some dinner and went to the men's soccer game--great fun. I knew he would want to do mostly sports events, not performing arts (being the only female in the crowd, I'm happy to go along with that choice--good thing I like sports!)

On Saturday we did the Pratt School of Engineering BBQ (there were other lunches available), the Duke/FSU football game and the Blue/White Men's Basketball scrimmage in Cameron!! We went out to dinner Saturday night.

On Sunday we did the Mass on campus (several religious services available), went shopping for necessities, and drove home. There were things happening on Sunday afternoon, but we had to get back home for an event on Sunday evening.

All in all--a very busy and really fun weekend!!
