Any parents who went to Penn Previews this year on the forum? any tips on managing the day and where to stay for one night?

Of course students can pass any tips that would help D navigate the day.

Thank you so much!

I went to Penn Previews last year. If you can, I recommend staying at the Hilton Inn at Penn, or the Sheraton University City. Both hotels are essentially on campus, so you can leave your bags and walk to the program. They are both very nice, so I would pick the one that has a lower price.

Penn runs a pretty structured program, so we just followed the schedule. I think there were some choices of programs and tours. We had really nice day.

Thanks! Is your S or D in CAS or Wharton? How was their freshman experience at Penn?

My daughter is a freshman in CAS. She loves Penn and is having a great experience academically and socially.

try to stay for 2 days- some programs overlap- then again you may not want to attend all of them
also check the schedule of classes your student wants to attend because some of those may overlap too!

inn at penn is a good place to stay

Both hotels in University City are very expensive, but you can check Hotwire, which has many nearby choices at much lower rates. It’s a busy, fun day, especially when the weather is great. We were there Thursday, which turned out to be gorgeous but also the day with the lightest turnout, about 400 people, which was nice for us. They were expecting twice as many people Friday (the day of Spring Fling), so the Quad was going to be unavailable after 12 noon.

We stayed at the Sheraton. Since I had never been on the campus, I decided to stay some place where we wouldn’t have to worry about a car. It was a nice hotel and close to everything. But you definitely can find less expensive hotels that aren’t that far from campus.

We attended the opening session, the dorm tour, the student financial services presentation and the dining and housing session. I also attended the parents’ session, which I found very informative.

We spent two days, which gave us time to explore on our own. I fell in love with Penn, and my daughter is so excited about her freshman year.
