Parents with kids applying to Providence

Our nostalgic answer would be that for years we’ve thought that there’s something to be said for checking the mailbox and finding a large envelope. However, our technical answer would be that we switched to a new system this year and need a full cycle to work out the kinks before we can begin to release decisions electronically. Sorry we can’t get the news to everyone sooner, but thank you for your patience!

My S is super excited that PC will notify by mail (with the exception of guessing at when delivery will happen in light of holiday mail). Every other school is electronic, and call us old-fashioned, but waiting for the package to arrive in the mail is much more exciting! Here’s hoping for good news on Saturday or Monday! Good luck to all! Go Friars!

Hello PC, my DS is an international student. Will he get notification through mail as well?

^ Same, I’m international too. Any specific date when decisions will me emailed? @PCAdmission

Just saw this forum post. Was wondering if any one else’s S’s or D’s applied ED with stats close to my daughters.
WGPA 3.3-3.4
SAT 1170
Captain of her tennis team jr & sr year.
Many EC’s… public high school.
She’s worried she doesn’t have a “better shot” because she applied ED. I remind her how schools like to see that they are your #1 choice. She loves providence. Let me know!

@“BCgrad123!” my son got in last year with literally those same stats! My daughter is 1310 SAT 3.5GPA Captain of the Varsity Mock Trial Team, Varsity Gymnastics, Latin Honor Society Board Member and many ec activities. She absolutely loves PC and applied ED 1. They like ED applicants! We are sitting with our fingers crossed! Hoping to hear good news Monday. Best of luck to your daughter!!!

@xaviermom2017 Wow! Many students from my daughters HS applied EA, with very strong grades and SAT scores. She’s the only one who applied ED out of them (as far as she knows). She’s Hoping Applying ED shows how serious she is. She’s mainly worried her UWGPA (3.1) isn’t enough. Best of luck to your daughter! Monday can’t come soon enough.

My daughter received her acceptance letter today! She is beyond excited to be a Friar!
PC 2022.

@PC2022Mom congratulations to your daughter! Same here! We couldn’t be happier! Keep Calm and Friar On!

D just got her decision letter - deferred. Applied EA, 3.9 WGPA, 29 ACT composite. NHS, President of Model WHO society, NSLC 2 years, job for 1.5 yrs, many other ec activities. Seems odd as should be enough but she has other options already - we’ll see next spring

Sorry @stepl100. Your D’s stats are great! I am assuming she will be a very competitive regular decision candidate! Stay positive and best of luck! You know what they say, they save the best for last!

My husband and I are both alums. Daughter applied EA and was deferred. Top NJ High School 3.84 weighted GPA 4
AP’s, several honors courses, 4 year varsity athlete. She is devastated

31 ACT also which she submitted

Sorry for those who didn’t get the news they wanted. Congrats to those who did. S18 got in, his letter came yesterday. ACT 34, weighted GPA 4.21, rising trend on grades for Q1. Good AP scores last year. No merit $ so have to wait until mid Jan on FA. Need something to make the math work. Waiting on Saint Joseph’s and Nova this week too.

Seem to be quite a few deferrals decision posted here from students with great stats and profile. PC clearly seem to have cherry picked who they want and fit the PC ‘profile’ the most from ED and EA applications - many with great stats now deferred as ‘reserve’ group to see what they get in the regular decision pool. Those who are deferred should not give up hope for PC as likely they will come back to this group from EA/ED

@VikkiG5 congratulations to your S! Good luck with other college decisions and $$$ - Hopefully aid will come through to make PC work if it is his 1st choice.

@pc1990 sorry to hear about your D’s deferral. I am a little shocked by the many deferrals reported on this thread. Everyone seems to have such good stats! It seems that the kids that applied ED had a lower deferral rate. I’m wondering if they were skeptical that many of the EAs were going to reject the offer of admission. I would like to think that many deferrals will be extended acceptance at the regular decision round. Best of luck!

@xaviermom2017 thank you. We are still in shock - and now questioning why we didn’t encourage her to apply ED. She is literally the only legacy this year that I know of that has gotten deferred. She will be writing her letter and changing her application status to ED 2, hoping for better news in February!

@pc1990 good decision if that is her first choice. I totally get applying EA over ED when it comes to college so don’t beat yourself up over your initial decision. In fact, my daughter initially filed EA with a handful of other schools including BC BU UVM and Maryland and then changed her status to ED last minute in late October after realizing that it was definitely her first choice. I was against her filing ED because I heard it was a financial disadvantage and I started questioning the decision again when she started getting acceptances with nice financial packages to a few other schools. Also, my son pulled out of his first choice college two weeks before classes started - what a disaster. However, after reading the posts in this thread it has become apparent that ED definitely worked to her benefit as it is most likely that she too would have been deferred given the stats comparisons. So, yes, I’m with you on having your daughter change her app to EDII. She should get in once they know she will commit! Again, best of luck and hang in there! Happy Holidays!

In reading the posts in other PC threads it appears the EA/ED applicant pool was both very large (over 6,700) and extremely competitive (the stats I’m reading are incredible) this year! From what I’m hearing this is true for many of the 2nd tier and selective schools in the NE area. It’s amazing how some of these schools have become so attractive to up and coming graduates and are now becoming more and more difficult to get into and also, receive scholarship money. Any thoughts? Discussion?
