Parking.. ON CAMPUS!

So I've been reading about how difficult it is to get parking passes for dorm students, but really JUST how hard is it?? I am driving my car down from Alaska, ugh, and I need to park it on campus. Anyone else bring a car who is living in the dorms next year? How do I go about getting a pass early so I can avoid the stress of not knowing if I will get one or not??

Parking passes are prohibitively expensive.... 200+ per QUARTER. yes you heard right, QUARTER.

The mantra I urge on all of you, for parking and housing: apply as early as possible, apply as early as possible, apply . . .

laurasmithak, I would hope that if you don't get a parking pass in the normal way, you could appeal and explain your circumstances. That said, do youreally need a car when you are at UW? The expense of driving all that way, plus the parking costs may make it make more sense to fly down and ship your worldly goods, buying bulky things after you get here. You'll get a bus pass with your Husky card, and the bus system is really pretty good in the metro area. Lots of things are within walking distance, too.

I dont need a car freshmen year at all. But I sorta have to take it down with me becuase I can't keep it up here in Alaska (my parents live in North Carolina, so there is no where for me to leave it). I dont want to sell it becuase it is relatively new and I will need it for when I move off campus. So unfortanitally, parking on campus frosh year seems to be the best idea. :S

Ah, I see. You might want to look into seeing if a garage can store your car in Seattle for the duration -- disconnect the battery, do the appproiate thing with the tires, etc. Could be a lot cheaper than parking it on campus. It is a bit of al ong drive for your parents to fly in, take it home, then bring it back when you need it.

Tomorrow is the first day for the housing application, but does anyone know if there is a separate application for parking passes? How do I even apply for one if I don't live in the seattle area and can't go to campus till school starts in Sept.? Any ideas....

My recollection is that the date for the application for the parking permit is considerably later than that for the housing application.
