You are not eligible for a permit at this time. (L002)

Permits for the Fall Semester of 2008 will be available beginning August 15, 2008.

If you are enrolled in the current semester, please contact Parking and Transportation Services at 850-645-8187, or email ccfreeman@admin.fsu.edu

Permits for summer are available. Permits are not available for fall until August. Usually they go live about a week before class. To get a parking permit you have to be registered for classes for summer, sign on to Blackboard, and then you go here <a href=“Home | Transportation & Parking Services”>https://parking.fsu.edu/T2/cmn/index.asp</a>.</p>

For fall, same thing. You register for classes. Then in August starting about a week before class you sign into blackboard, click on the link above and register. It comes in 2-3 days in the mail. It will come to your home, or you can have it come to your school PO Box–you will indicate where you want it mailed.

PS, it is confusing, but permits are good from 9/1 of one year until 8/31 of the next. But they start issuing permits for 9/1 about a week before fall term starts in August, and if you have a permit for 9/1/09-8/31/10 YOU ARE FINE when you arrive as as freshman to start fall term. You do not need two permits.

Summer students need to get a permit for summer, and a new one for fall. They are included in the transportation tuition fee. So there is NO ADDED CHARGE. Fall students who did not go for summer just need one permit.

And when you arrive on campus, DO NOT PARK ANYWHERE BUT A PARKING SPOT. If you are moving in, someone must stay at the car with keys if your car is not parked in a spot. Or you will get an expensive ticket. If you park your car near a dorm, and park it on the grass or out of the way, AND IT IS NOT IN A DESIGNATED PARKING SPOT, you may get ticketed or even towed. So if you are unloading your car on move in day, someone stay with the car with the keys. If it is just you, unload your stuff into a stack/pile on the grass, park the car and walk back. NO ONE WILL TAKE YOUR STUFF. But if you walk up with stuff up to your room, and leave your car parked, alone and unattended and not in a parking spot, you will get a ticket. You will say it is stupid, and unfair, etc etc. But it is what they do, it is what the signs say they will do. And invariably, if you leave your car and it is not a designated spot, you are blocking the narrow roads in case of an ambulance or fire truck. So be forewarned. And if you see a line of cars parked on the grass, and you park next to them as well YOU WILL ALL GET TICKETED. So just don’t. On move in day (you can move in ANY DAY from the day the dorms open until the day classes start; 24/7) just realize that it will be crazy. There will be WAY MORE CARS than there is room for cars. So come at an odd hour. If the dorm opens Wed at 9am, and classes start Mon, it will be less crazy on Thurs or Fri. Or Sat evening, Or EARLY SUN MORNING. Or in the middle of the night (yes you can move in 24/7 and there are at least three 24 hr Walmart Supercenters). But it will still be busy. Allow time. Do not hesitate to unload the entire car onto a nice spot on the sidewalk or grass, go park the car and come back. This means you should pack most of your stuff in boxes and big bags. Don’t just put loose stuff in the car. Bring a dolly/handtruck. Yes, the dorm office has some. But they have a couple, not 100 of them. Just plan on it taking awhile. Patience is everything on the day you move in. It will be hot and sweaty. The elevators will be busy. But it will be great!!!

And faculty spots/lots are available after 5pm weekdays and all day weekends. And if it is a metered spot, put money in the meter :).

My son had the same problem last year. I called the number for parking and they said during the first week, they “look the other way” if you don’t have a sticker. They said they give everyone a chance to move in and get their sticker. Of course, like sunnyflorida said, you MUST park in a “LEGAL” spot at all times. Call them if you have questions.

Don’t stress about it, just have fun and enjoy your first week on campus.

Thank you. I was getting a bit worried about the whole parking problem. So If I read right I will be moving in to the dorms that week that they open and if I have no parking permit at the time I won’t get towed.

It did that for me also, so I emailed the webmaster, and then they told me to try again, and it worked after that…

For the fall parking permit, should we get it now and we’ll get it before Aug 19th, or do they ship it around that date?

They DO NOT START TO ISSUE FALL PERMITS until mid August. If you arrive on campus for fall term without your sticker just park in a legal student parking spot and you will be fine. They don’t crack down until after Sept 1. Just don’t park illegally, if it is not a student parking spot, don’t park there even on move in day.

You can get a 2008 -2009 if you need one for SUMMER. They are not yet issuing fall permits.

people always FREAK OUT about parking on moving days, and tickets, and all of that. Each time I moved in/out, my dad just parked on the side of the curb like EVERY OTHER PARENT DID, and we made trips from my room to the car, for about 45 minutes. I’ve never heard of anyone getting a ticket…so many people do it, I feel like the campus pd just looks the other way during moving days.
