I'm a high school senior and I was accepted to Stanford. I want to go into the field of particle physics so I was wondering if any current student had any advice for me such as research opportunities, internships, or any specific programs that could help me. Also, I wanted to double major in Nuclear Engineering and Physics, but since Stanford doesn't have Nuclear Engineering, is just Physics enough, or should I look into other programs as well?

Well, Stanford is great for particle physics specifically, largely due to the presence of SLAC. You could really do some good work there.

Another approach might be applying to some of the schools in the Chicagoland area – Northwestern and U of C, for example. While their programs are decent in physics, it’d also give you access to Fermilab, which is very generous in offering internships to those students.

Unless you want to go to Switzerland? :)

Yes, I am really excited about SLAC! Hopefully I can get an opportunity to do research as an undergrad. Do you know if they have any summer programs? And yes, I would absolutely love to go to CERN. That’s one of my dream places to eventually work at!
