Parties at BS??

Just a bunch of questions bout parties.. add ur answers/opinions about specific schools of BS in general

Are parties at BS generally good like regular high school parties?

Are there drinking parties? If so, how do teachers not find out? <-- don't know if this is appropriate for this forum but Im askin anyway

What school has the best parties?

Can you have parties at day students houses? If so, how can you get there/get permission to go?

Are parties on campus always supervised?

Do you really think it is wise to post these questions on a public forum before getting accepted to schools? Remember, you have identified yourself by relaying many specific details about yourself in prior posts.

Dun dun dun~!

le rosey… i mean come on, it’s like a yearlong party!

…ok then creeper…its just an innocent question. nobody is getting harmed, its not offensive or potentially harmful. what admissions officers have the time to stalk around CC read every single post of DE trombone’s to figure out who they are and then decide whether or not this person is…cautious enough to not ask questions they want to know. we were all wondering this (or at least i was) calm down!

RIP - your post speaks to your immaturity. no need to call me a creeper nor tell me to calm down. feel free to post away. I know for a fact that this site is visited by several admissions officers. Just saying…

But who is going the time out of their day to stalk us down, see every little thing that might have some significance and decide anything on it? If they were to it’d be pretty creepy.

How is it ‘not wise’ to post an innocent question on a forum where one may get the answer? If I recall correctly there was a similar thread quite a while ago that got pretty long. So therefore DT would most likely get their question answered. And maybe DT wants to know to avoid extra crazy schools. Hmm? y’know just maybe thats a possibility.

To be honest, what doschicos is saying has some merit, and we could all talk pretty civilly here. IMO, I agree that the chances of having someone spend all their time rooting out all the little details of a person are pretty small, and that these questions are typical to ask, but it’s always safer to post with caution. This isn’t a totally anonymous board and people should keep some respect with at least that in mind.

My cousin actually goes to Deerfield, and she has told me that sometimes they have parties where are the neighboring schools come together. She said they are really fun.

Such questions are certainly not “unwise”. They, in fact, go beyond the general set of recurring questions on this forum and try to understand certain dynamics at BS–something to which all high schoolers are prone. I commend DEtrombone for asking such questions, as it is much more helpful than asking if a 94 percentile on the SSAT is good enough.

I will even go beyond other answers which indicate that admissions officers will not have time to track him/her down. Even if they did it would certainly not have an undesirable impact. This taboo of being unable to ask the most pertinent and important questions is the downfall of most people.

The flip side of your specious statement would be that it further displays your immaturity, as you are unable to conquer something which presents itself in every high school.

In an interview I had, we mildly touched on this topic, even.

Although a flame war would be mildly interesting, I feel I must reaffirm a few facts.

1) Admission staff rarely, if ever, look on these forums.

2) Admission staff are very, very busy people. Between organizing tours, responding to emails, planning interviews, writing notes, coordinating with coaches and teachers, they do not have the time to individually check all candidate profiles just to identify which member of this forum is which applicant.

3) In the case that admission staff identifies the forum poster, there is still no need to worry. The question is one that is harmless and perfectly valid.

4) Help is usually welcome. Patronizing comments can be tolerated if they hold substance. I do think people tend to forget we are try to HELP each other. A well-meaning post is not an invitation for insults.

5) Wave goodbye to 2009 everyone. :D

Not interested in wading in on the bickering, but I do want to confirm that there is traffic to this site from boarding school admissions’ officers OR THEIR DESIGNEES. This is the preeminent boarding school newsgroup / gossip area for parents and potential applicants. Most of the schools discussed regularly on this site pay attention to the chatter because it can influence opinion.

In the last two weeks, for instance, a thread was started wherein a recently expelled boarding school student made a bunch of claims about partying and smoking on campus. However accurate that post may have been, it was removed several days later at the request of the School. It is good, smart business for Admission’s Offices to keep a pulse on this site and it’s na

I agree with your post. Sorry if it came across as if I was trying to start a flame war, which was not my intention.

How about I actually answer the question. No there aren’t really parties but you probably can got to parties at day students houses.

ok thank you, that’s all I was looking for. And i mean suriously if an admissions officer spent their time to stalk someone on this forum and find out who they were, then what are they gonna do? Are they gonna like put a little note in my folder saying I wanted to know if there were drinking parties and shouldn’t get accepted? Sounds pretty unlikely to me. Also, I know all of you want to know the answers to these questions, you’re just to scared to ask.

I’d like to know the answers to these questions also. It would be pretty easy for an admissions officer to figure out who I am, but I’m not nervous about it because I haven’t said anything I regret. If they do “stalk me” they will get to know me better as a person which is a good thing not bad.

uhoh… I hope they can’t work out who I am. They probably can I suppose. I don’t believe, outside of complaining about essays and proccrastinating, that I’ve revealed myself to be an unsuitable candidate.

@Parlabane That is a very interesting point you raise. Is it the right of a School to remove posts pertaining to itself? I will be speaking with an administrator about this. Clearly, if a school is censoring these forums, something must be done.

From my experience, at Andover

Are parties at BS generally good like regular high school parties?
nope

Are there drinking parties? If so, how do teachers not find out? <– don’t know if this is appropriate for this forum but Im askin anyway
Some students drink, but in no way is this the norm. Since it is a boarding environment, there is close supervision from house counselors (faculty who live in your dorm), and people get kicked out all the time for drinking, etc. So there are no big “parties” on campus.

What school has the best parties?
wouldn’t know

Can you have parties at day students houses? If so, how can you get there/get permission to go?
Yes… if it is in the town of Andover then I don’t think you need special permission.

Are parties on campus always supervised?
no

The party scene is not big/ non-existent at andover, but it doesn’t mean we are bored at all. We are pretty occupied most of the time … huge workload, and the student activities office is pretty good about organizing fun events on weekends (dances, movies, cultural/club-organized events). Don’t know how it is at other schools, though.

ok thanks 10char
