Parties???

why does collegeboard.com say that it is a public school?

i go to penn state. we all consider it a state school here, i dont care what the official definition is

I consider it a state school, but here is the official psu.edu answer:

Myth: Penn State is state-owned and operated.

Fact: Penn State is "state-related." It was incorporated in 1855 as a private entity but the Board of Trustees included representatives of state government, including the governor. The state legislature in 1863 named Penn State the Commonwealth’s sole land-grant institution, a designation that gave the University a broad mission of teaching, research, and public service. The legislature only occasionally granted funds to Penn State during the early years but since 1887 has made appropriations on a regular basis.

Maybe everyone should tell Penn State what's up, since according to you guys, they're wrong. Thanks harmon

ok - back to parties:
I love 'em, but if I go to Penn State, I am not going to be totally without my intellectuals, political activists, hippies, etc, right?
I need diversity of character, and it's so big, so...
There are sub communities in Penn State other than the footballers, correct?

I just hope I find a cool group of Friends, I'm gonna be pretty Nervous and when I go there.

first off, penn state is not a state school. it's a public school, yes... but not a state school.

secondly, they drink all the time. it can be 8 am and they're walking down the streets drinking. i really don't like the school, and i think it's pretty pathetic actually. most of the kids i've seen act like they just discovered alcohol yesterday. i've been there for a few football games when friends have had an extra ticket, and i really don't think it's all that.

Fender you went to PSU?

doesn't look like fender did. just went to a few football games, it seems.
i don't think you can judge ALL of penn state based on the people at the football games. First, it's a football game. Second, there are thirty-five thousand students. A couple of them HAVE to be non-drinkers. :)

I have to agree with you sarit ;)

lol i'm gonna go and be a non-drinker, well most of the time...i'm not quite fond of alcohol/drugs

There are definitely people that don't drink, but a majority does. Also anyone who has gone to a PSU football game and did not enjoy themselves obviously should not look at any school in the Big 10 or any division 1 school for that matter. At Penn State football is a way of life. If you don't go to the games and attend the school you are nuts. A Penn State game is something everyone should experience at least once in their lives. For instance I went to the Ohio State game this year and it totally changed my outlook on college. From that point on I decided I could only ever be happy at a Big 10 school. That conclusion was further supported the next weekend when I went out to Michigan for my visit to that institution and saw Penn States unfortunate last second loss. The emotion of both of those games was amazing. While I was in State College for the game and subsequently Schreyer's Honors day, I spent the weekend with a good friend (who is a freshman) and experienced a college weekend at its fullest. Let me put it this way that weekend was crazy and a lot of fun. The memories (including the large chunk of the late Saturday night and early Sunday morning that I can not remember) that occurred that weekend will forever linger in my mind as my introduction to college life and what convinced me what type of school I will be attending. Now that I have made my decision and have accepted at Penn State (Michigan was a close second, due to cost and distance from home), I am eagerly awaiting August 30th the day that I will pack the car and head up to Happy Valley. Which I must add is a very appropriate title because they are quite happy in that valley.

I must reinforce the fact that although many drink some don't even though I will be among those that do

question: i make fun of pretty much everything if i get in a certain mood. will i get beat up (i am a girl...for the record) if i make fun of psu football as a student there?

fun question.

also: i have nothing to make fun of football or psu about at this point, it was more of a hypothetical question

I would not doubt it. Just avoid anything that is red and white or Maize and blue on game day

nah, i'd be wearing blue and white proudly like everyone else there.

by the way, whose colors are those? im not familiar with the psu rivals etc

That reminds me,, I need to like ""stock up"" on PSU apparel.

I only have one Penn State Sweatshirt and that's it. I definitly need to by some t-shirts and crap. I didn't really pay attention too much on the visit but I'm guessing jeans and a PSU shirt is the main dress style. Am I correct???

That brings up another point. Have you guys already started Thinking of what to take to the Campus and how it's going to be like living in a Dorm Room. 50 days before School's out and I can already feel the anticipation of Moving to Happy Valley and EAST Dorms. It's going to be such a change. I wonder who I'll get for a roommate?? How am I going to fit in?? I don't know anybody there. How difficult will the classes Be?? What major am I going to choose?? how Freaking awsome is it that I'm going to Penn State???? is anyone else getting nervous/excited already. I know it's almost a year away but I can feel it.

Joey, I know what you mean. My problem is that I have a ton of PSU sweatshirts, but not nearly enough t-shirts. I am going to begin the PSU apparel purchasing soon. I can't wait for PSU...it should be a blast!

Enjoy the rest of your senior year.

Those schools would be Michigan (blue and Maize) and OSU(ohio State)(red and white). I would also liket to add how excited I am for football. It is going to be so awesome. Me and 108,000 of my closest friends all gathered in Beaver cheering on the team. Lets just hope they are good. Oh and this movie is awesome http://www.personal.psu.edu/users/e/j/ejd160/back.wmv

Sports are a huge thing for me. There is another video. It looks like a recruiting video.

i lovelovelove those videos. they give me goosebumps. haha im pretty much obsessed with sports. and i lovelovelove PSU football <3 and i cannot wait until all of those saturdays next year =)
