Parties!!!!!!

Alright guys, ND is obviously a fine academic institution, but how does the party scene work there? I hear there are no frats, so parties take place in the dorms, but how does that work with a priest living in there? And this may sound like a ridiculous question, but are girls allowed at parties in the boys dorms, and boys allowed at parties in the girls dorms?

Thanks guys!

This question has, I believe, been addressed before. Most parties occur in guys' dorms, and of course the ladies are allowed. The priest leaves you alone unless you do something stupid like let word get out that you have hard alcohol or walk out into the hallway with some booze.

is the 2 am thing strictly enforced and are there easy ways around it?

The parietals enforcement depends on your dorm and rector. From my experience though, they are pretty strictly enforced. I've heard of quite a few kids getting kicked out of the dorm for breaking parietals. There are some ways around it, but if you get caught odds are they won't just look the other way. It usually depends on what time it is (the penalty for getting caught at 2:30 is perhaps lighter than if you get caught at say 4 am). In my opinion, it really isn't worth the risk. If you are like me, you worked for years to get into ND and experience the awesome dorm life, so it would be silly to put it all at risk just for one night.

Thanks guys....

So priests are aware that beer is present, and are ok with it, but if they hear about/see any hard alcohol, they crack the whip?

Pretty much. They are realists, they know that drinking is going to happen, so the beer is pretty much tolerated. It is hard to kill yourself drinking beer (unless you drive or do something stupid). Hard alcohol, however, is very different!

i just find it strange that they tolerate it when we received this whole packet on how underage drinking is a problem that needs to end, yet the priests seem to be okay with it... (hey i'm not complaining--just curious)

So how often are parties? And are the students limited to only the parties that their respective dorms throw, or can a student from one dorm go to a party at another?

You should be pretty well guaranteed to find something Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Everyone goes off campus, girls go to guys dorms, but guys usually stay in their own dorm for parties.

some dorms "zahm" sometimes have a "no foreign sausage policy" with regards to guys from other guys dorms going to their dorm parties.

If you know who to ask you can party every weekend and there even some contingents that drink on Wednesday nights and Friday mornings, which is a little extreme if you ask me. As for parietals, sure you can break that rule if you really want to and plan, but no one needs it that bad. It will actually be better for you most of the time. My roomate freshman year got into it with this girl from Jersey, and parietals were an easy way to get her out of the room so there was no awkwardness when I went to sleep.

haha that's what i was thinking--parietals just means you don't have to wake up next to her... sounds like a plus to me

Haha, jvon...very classy...

Yeah, for the most part, the rector won't interrupt your party unless you're stupid about it. I've actually seen people wandering around the hallways drunk with the priest watching. Perhaps, not the smartest move, but very often you can get away with it.
