How is the party scene at Michigan. I know there will probably be a lot of frat/soro parties. Share your experiences.... Usually when I go to parties in another area, there isn't much dancing going on. Just drinking and talking and the occasional hooking up sort of thing. I'm pretty much new to the state of Michigan. I want to know how people from Michigan get down lol.

(Senior in high school)
I always assumed most college parties will probably be social, occasional hook up, and alcohol. While the dancing scene is more prevelent at clubs.

(^ Not sure)

How hard is it to get into frat parties if your not in a fraternity? Can you just bring 1-2 good looking chicks and get in or is it easy enough to get on a list?

its not hard if you have a friend in a frat. he can just put your name on a list.

and some frats do get pretty wild, with dance rooms too.

iight cool. I gotta learn the popular Michigan dances. Can’t wait to arrive on campus. Anyone have any experiences to share from Frat/Soro parties, or just parties in general?

Yes, but not ones I’m gonna share on this board. And, if you’re into the whole partying/drinking scene, you will have many as well.

I’m not into the drinking scene really. Because I’m a hip-hop dancer I tend to be at parties, usually to dance and have fun. Usually experiences that deal with Alcohol are bad ones. I was just mainly wondering how is the dancing scene at Michigan parties. If anyone knows or has an experience to share.

lol… does U of M even have parties, cuz I thought its just a bunch of people who study way too much. i would probably drive to east lansing for the parties.

@ R-KATT, lol UMich parties are better than east lansing’s. I’ve driven through the cornfields out to MSU many times and it just doesnt compare. Alot of the parties at MSU aren’t free and its a UM tradition that most if not all parties are free.

and lol @ Entertainer , popular michigan dances? sadly most people at frat parties can’t dance AT ALL. This applies to guys and girls. So if you’re used to being around people with rythm then I would find somewhere else to party. The bad dancing is only multiplied by the presence of alcohol lol.

Yea here in Jersey everyone mainly dances, but thats when I’m around most of my African American friends. When it comes to the caucasian parties, everyone just drinks. I guess its the same.

I have never seen anyone dance outside of a club, ever. Which is unfortunate, I would actually go to parties if there was more to do than sit around and drink.

People dance at parties in college twistedxkiss.

There is more than just alcohol, occasional hookups, and socializing at parties… maybe some form of games, or say food appertizers. Though yeah, if your looking for dancing you will more than likely prefer club scene (where there is more dancing than other things). By club scene I do not mean bars, though now there are many different types of clubs… some dominated by all but dancing.

^
wow…LOL… no comment

Coolbreeze, you’re in HS. I doubt you’ve ever been to a college party.

hey guys cmon… i am sure U of M has parties where the sources of fun are rousing games of monopoly and eating cheese cubes… YUM!

Wow don’t be always naive, and I obviously wasn’t speaking for the majority of college parties ( no one can, you just can’t) and didn’t literally mean to expect appertizers or games ( such a monopoly)… simply giving the OP an ideal how you can find something different at each, and basically your more than likely to find the ultimate dancing scene ( one may be looking for) at a night club.

(Don’t be surprise to find appertizers such as cheese cubs at a party not dominated by alcohol)

Yea, apparently Ann Arbor has some good clubs that a lot of students attend… At least this is from what I’ve read and from what other students have told me. I guess I will just have to figure it out for myself. What are some of the good Frats on campus? I might join when I’m a Junior or so.

Phi Psi and SAE are the top two. Theta Chi is pretty good-kinda NY. Pike gets girls but they’re sorority boys. How hard is it to join a fraternity sophmore year? My dad did it in the 80s but I think it may be different now.
Coolbreeze-There really aren’t any parties without alcohol. They may be “parties,” but no one considers them real parties, like frat parties. They’re more like gatherings.

@Entertainer. I’m African American and I was trying SO hard not to bring that aspect into the thread lol but I’m glad you did! There is a noticeable difference. If you want to dance and not drink AS much then you should look into the parties thrown by the historically African American/ Hispanic sorority and fraternities. They’re the most fun IMO but they have a tendency to get shutdown by AA police. They also cost money but they are definitely looking into. Everyone is really accepting and it feels really close knit. It feels like the other frats and sororities on campus have the main objective of keeping everyone out and making their parties as exclusive as possible as the year goes on.

The other frats and sororities do have dancing but good dancing is another story. I guess you can blame it on the alcohol or whatever you can think of lol. Everyone has their niche.
