I was wondering what the party scene at Minnesota was like and how difficult the Carlson School of Management is because I was accepted into that. Thanks a lot for the feedback.

Naked people running around. That’s what my friends told me. Just kidding!

The Carlson School of Management is very difficult to get in, I am sure about it! Business, IT, and health fields are what the UMN-TC is very strong at. My cousin applied to Carlson school but got rejected because her SAT was not good enough (I think), even though she got a very good GPA.

Because the U of M is very crowded, I think the party scene will be very interesting and crazy. I haven’t seen any friends of mine saying they are not having fun at the party.

In all seriousness though, CSOM is a very good school. Because you also mentioned parties, im assuming you’ll go to few. Just study up enough and you’re GPA should be fine. it is pretty difficult, so you do need to study.
As for the parties, it’s a huge campus with a lot going on. You can pretty easily find a party (with or without alcohol) or thereare many other activities you can do. it’s pretty much whatever you make of it

Hey I can give you a really good opinion about what goes on here. I’m currently a sophomore in Carlson and an avid partier on the weekends.

Carlson:
Carlson is quite difficult to get into with an average ACT of around 29. These are not “nerdy” students by any means, but the more class officer, preppier sort of student. Classes are normally very competitive having this sort of student top to bottom. The school adjusts for this by having the class median being a “B.” Carlson offers some great opportunities that other Big Ten business schools can’t quite match: a great financial/business community all around you. Minneapolis and St. Paul provide great chances for highly sought internships and networking. Some of the companies in MSP include: Best Buy, General Mills, the Big 4 Accounting firms, Travelers, middle market investment banks, Cargil, Caribou Coffee, Buffalo Wild Wings, Ecolab, Boston Scientific, Medtronic, etc. etc. There are around 25 Fortune 500 companies in this Metro. It’s also great to be able to intern at such companies while being able to go to class during the school year if you can balance it. Right now I intern at a Fortune 100 company and still handle my course work and extra curriculars. If the MSP area isn’t for you and you want to branch out Carlson has a vast Alumni Network available for contact. I have loved my time at Carlson and most students do. I will end my rant now, but any specific questions about Carlson or the U just let me know!

Partying
Most parties here are either house/apt parties or Fraternities. Our Greek Life is pretty good for a Northern school. We aren’t a huge bar school, but obviously there are always those. Also, for a change of pace you can take a bus or taxi 10 minutes to downtown Minneapolis and go clubbing. Like other Big Ten schools Minnesota is a pretty big party school and you will never have a shortage.

^Excellent post jotajota218 - very informative and helpful.

jota, yeah the whole internship thing has really attracted me to the school, but i also like the college town atmosphere Madison has to offer, so we’ll have to see.

I personally am in CBS, so I don’t know much about CSoM, but as for the party scene… lets just say their is never a lack of things to do! Especially as a freshman living in the superblock!
