How big/ little is it? Will I be able to find parties? Heard it’s hard to find one in UCSD yet it’s a bit excessively abundant in UCSB. Is UC Davis between those two?

Is Davis a commuter school? Is it quiet on the weekends?

Is Davis a commuter school? Is it quiet on the weekends?

its a college town.

being that… ?

I’m not into parties but from what i’ve heard the party system at davis is pretty reliant on the Greek system.

^Yeah…if you’re a freshman. There’s tons of house parties every weekend.

Can we drink in our dorms? How strict is the policy? I know UCSD has a strict policy on no alcohol on campus.

Davis has a zero tolerance alcohol/drugs/paraphernalia policy

darn it! so is that why the “open bottle” is a fine? but how lenient are they about drinking? as long as its done quietly in your dorm it should be fine… no?

I can bet that drinking is forbidden in any college dorm.

You sound very eager to drink tho, and looking at your DOB in your profile it says you are only 17. Don’t let the “OMG YEA IM IN COLLEGE AND DRINKING WOOOO” mentality get to you.

^lolol

well, a girl on our tour asked “What’s your alcohol policy on campus?”
and the tour guide treated it like some kind of taboo…lol
she stressed the zero-tolerance. and I’ve heard from other friends that it’s “lame”
iiiiiiiiiiiiiidunnooooooooo

helpmeplease: perhaps u should read this story:

[UC Davis News & Information :: UC Davis, city mourn passing of former Aggie Scott Heinig](News)

Oh no, I’m definitely not a drinker. I’m leaning towards Davis over SB because of SB’s party scene. I’m not looking forward to alcohol in general -_-; So yeah, but thanks for all the replies!

Oh my god… that was yesterday… Rest in Peace.

If you don’t look for parties, you won’t have anything to do with them… With the exception of Picnic Day (which was when that guy died; [Picnic Day - Davis Wiki](http://daviswiki.org/picnic_day)).
There is some pregaming in the dorms, but it’s kept really hush hush because it’s not supposed to happen. You won’t see any of it unless you’re willingly attending.

Here’s what’s what.

In the dorms, alcohol and drugs are not allowed, but it’s stupid to pretend that they aren’t there. If you go to the park by Cuarto or anywhere in the arboretum late at night…you get it.

If you are a freshman, the only parties you will know about are fraternity parties. The guest lists are strictly enforced, so it’s good to meet a lot of people in the greek system early on.

Sophomore year and up you’ll know more about house parties and whatnot.

It’s this simple: If you want parties, you will find them, but not every weekend, especially as a freshman. You can expect to find a minimum of 5-6 parties a quarter as a freshman. But, it’s not overwhelming. If you aren’t looking for parties, you won’t find them.

Davis is NOT a party school. If that’s what you’re looking for in college, you won’t find it here. But, there is alcohol in the dorms, etc. As for RA leniency, some RA’s are more chill than others. But, if they directly see alcohol/drugs/paraphenlia, they MUST write it up.

Thanks for all the input AggieGuy. I feel like I’ll be more focused with my work at Davis than SB and the peer around me would be the same since there aren’t parties down the street everyday.
