Party school with decent academics?

All i want out of college is to have fun. This is what i've been looking forward to and working toward my entire life so i want it to be what i've been waiting for, which is essentially an all-out party school.

My parents were fine with this..until i started trying in school, got a decent gpa, and somehow pulled off really high sat and act scores.

So basically now they've decided that i shouldn't "waste my life away" and whatnot and should go to one of the top schools.

Any suggestions on a school that could work as a compromise? Amazing social scene coupled with a prestigious enough name to make my parents get over it?

Thanks, i would greatly appreciate it..

I personally will not assist you in throwing away your future. Maybe someone else could be of more help?

I wouldn't call it "throwing away"
I mean wherever I go i'm still going to do my work and go to grad school, i just want to fully appreciate the 'best years of my life'

sarebeth - I'm looking for the same experience. I know I will succeed in life, so I might as well be at a school where I'm going to have the best time. I essentially want to go to a party school too.

My top schools are UC Santa Barbara, University of Miami, San Diego State, and Indiana University.

Good luck in finding the best party school.....

whats you gpa and sat scores?

There are plenty of great schools that also have a great social side. Ones that will impress people on this board (which is full of people like MK) include Wisconsin-Madison, UT-Austin, IU-Bloomington, Illinois-Urbana/Champaign, UNC-Chapel Hill, Florida, UCLA. Really, depending on what you want to do, nearly any major state school in one of the big athletic conferences (Big 12, Big 10+1, ACC, SEC, PAC-10, or Big East) will be able to provide at least a decent education with plenty of social life.

Among the Ivies, Dartmouth is probably the best party school - it at least has the biggest Greek system.

Most public schools have a good party scene...ASU,U of arizona, U of georgia, FSU,OSU...but i wouldn't choose one (like UCSB)that has HUGE party scene since i wouldn't be able to study at that enviroment... In fact i'm looking forward to go to a more nerd school..I have visited UCSB and oh men i wouldn't last one semester there...too much hot girls and hard liquor.. i would have a major colapse!!

definitely ASU

USC comes to mind.

I just think it is ridiculous that so many students have partying as their priority. In most cases, parents work hard to be middle-class so their children can run off to a university and party and do not work as hard as they should in school.

I mean don't waste your parents money(thousands and thousands) if your just looking for parties. If anyone pays their own expenses and puts themselves through college, then they can party all they want.

But if CC has such spoiled, over-confident brats "i know i will be successful wherever i go" etc. keep up with your attitudes and see how far it carries you in the real world.

MK

He said he was going to do the work and go to grad school. He just wants a school with a strong, vibrant social life. Whats the problem here?

Maybe Penn State honors program?

Vanderbilt, certainly.

And MK: I personally believe people who go to a school to major in economics or business of pre-law so that they can make money in a corrupt job that doesn't even make them happy in the first place are wasting their lives. At least someone who wants to party isn't hurting anyone and is probably going to be pleased with life.

I recommend UT Austin.
Major party school.
Major geniuses also.

Clendenenator - partying doesn't hurt anyone? Do you have any idea how many college students die of alchohol or drug-related causes? How many people die from drunk driving by college students??? These partiers often put innocent and unsuspecting lives at risk.

"I know I will succeed in life"

That's quite an ego. Don't worry, you'll be humbled later in life.

On topic: It is important to remember that while a school can have a reputation for both strong academics and partying, it does not mean that the students who party are academically strong. It is pretty to safe to say that, in general, an inverse relationship exists between partying and academic performance. This is not to say you should abandon all social life - that's unhealthy - but the OP clearly said in his first sentence: "All i want out of college is to have fun." This sort of attitude guarantees failure, IMO.

GShine thank you for a great post. This is basically what I have been trying to say, but you said it in such an elegant way I don't think there is any way other posters can ignore it now.

University of Wisconsin-Madison (always on the list for best party schools), Penn State, UCSB, OSU, USC, Cornell, UNLV, NYU (depends what college i.e. not Stern), ASU, USF, UCF, and quite a few more. I hope you study more than you party though. Good Luck.

ok well I will list the obvious choice since your location is Maryland...

University of Maryland, honors program if you can

flagship state school, sports scene is big, partying atmosphere is there, and you can get an education.

University of Miami
Univerisity of Florida

Geez, why do people on CC have a need to e-lecture? They're just itching to get it out! I bet some posters just wish their questions could be answered without one. And OP, I think all the big 10 schools are great in terms of academic and social scene. How bout Michigan or Wisc-Madison?
