I am applying to colleges this month and I am thinking about UCSD and UCSB. I want to PARTY and I also want to study and work pretty hard. From what i've heard, UCSB is the right choice for me, right? I know people say college is what you make it, but SO many people are saying UCSD is boring...I want the FUN COLLEGE experience that everyone talks about! What do you think about these two schools?!? THANKS =]

There’s not even a debate here: it’s UCSB for you, for sure. We live up to that party rep and we are still a great academic school.

UCSB is a residential college, so everyone lives on or right near campus. The college is actually a few miles away from the city of Santa Barbara, so the school has a real college town feel. UCSD is in the San Diego urban area, and many students after they leave the dorm live in nice places like Mission Beach or Pacific Beach. But since they’re not that close to campus the school has much less of a college-town feel. It all depends on what you’re looking for; in San Diego you’ll have more of the attractions of a mid-sized city a short drive away, at Santa Barbara you’ll get more of the away-at-college feel.

it’s also a plus if you like soccer games

I just got here not even a month ago, and I’m doing perfectly fine in my classes and I party whenever I want. As long as YOU are in control of yourself and make the right choices on when to study and when to party, you will be fine. A lot of people spend HOURS studying but still enjoy this school a LOT, like me :]

UCSB - university of casual sex and beer
UCSD - university of california socially deprived

says it all heh? ;)
