PARTYING at Harvard

How are the parties at Harvard? By party, I mean the beer-guzzlng and beer-pong playing variety. Do they exist? Are they prevalent? Are they there for those that want them? Are they dominated by exclusive Finals Clubs? How often (what days of the week) do they occur? Lastly, are there fraternities (I know the administration loathes them, but...)?

Sincerely,
An accepted student to Harvard 2013

yah I want to know about this as well please

they do exist…
if you want the ones that are really heavy on drinking and not much else, you’ll need to look for informal/unofficial dorm parties <which will=“” basically=“” be=“” held=“” in=“” one=“” of=“” your=“” friends’=“” dorms…=“”>
then there’s the real/big parties that also involve dancing, and those are generally every weekend. they’ll be advertised towards the middle of the week, but some of them you have to buy tickets for.
final clubs do not dominate the party scene.
& Harvard parties generally aren’t all that great.</which>

How are the parties at Harvard? By party, I mean the beer-guzzlng and beer-pong playing variety. Do they exist? Are they prevalent? Are they there for those that want them?
Parties definitely exist. It’s all about who you surround yourself with. Hard parties exist with people getting foolishly drunk. Party quality depends on what kind of partying you’re expecting which is determined by whether you found the kind of party you were looking for (i.e. dance party, chilling party, foolishness, etc.)

Are they dominated by exclusive Finals Clubs?
Simply, no. If you end up in that crowd, then that will be your party scene (or if you’re a dumb freshman girl, finals club girl, or a finals club girlfriend)

How often (what days of the week) do they occur? Fridays and Saturdays are key days. Thursday nights are more common for upperclassmen who tend to not have lectures on Fridays, however, these will be a bit more low key. Also, seniors will have senior bar which are nightly during spring semester.

Lastly, are there fraternities (I know the administration loathes them, but…)?
There are frats. From my few years here, sororities are more prevalent than fraternities. Approximately 5-10% of undergrads will engage in Greek Life.

Oh well…can’t have it all, I guess.

How are the parties at Harvard?

Variable. Some very fun.

By party, I mean the beer-guzzlng and beer-pong playing variety.

Obviously. What do you take me for, some kind of scholar?

Do they exist? Are they prevalent? Are they there for those that want them?

They exist and are prevalent for those that want them.

Are they dominated by exclusive Finals Clubs?

They are called Final Clubs, and they aren’t as exclusive as everyone makes them out to be. For a lot of kids here, Final Club parties are a big part of the social scene, but not everyone. If you don’t want to party at clubs you can find other places.

How often (what days of the week) do they occur?

Depends how hard you are willing to look (and, unfortunately, how much you will lower your partying standards-- there isn’t an animal house extravaganza every night of the week, or even every week, here). I would say there are good, easy to find parties two nights of the week here. If you want more you can always hit up the other boston schools. BU, BC, and MIT (surprisingly) all throw some great parties.

Lastly, are there fraternities (I know the administration loathes them, but…)?

Yes, two I think. Sig Chi throws decent parties sometimes. The administration doesn’t loathe them too much. Final Clubs also fill a role filled in other schools by frats (keep an open mind to them)

From one partier to another, I hope I’ve helped. Congrats on getting in-- that’s a real accomplishment and I hope you party the hell out of it.

You care too much.
