why do you get priority registration for being poor?

It's for "Disadvantaged students"
EOPS stands for Extended Opportunity Programs and Services.

it takes time for disadvantaged students to read and to plan out their schedule...... i guess? I am one of them

i mean i agree with the money but priority registration??

whatever.

I forgot to add, free waivers too.

And you get money to buy books.

yah you get book vouchers, if pcc didn't have so many people it would be better, i knew someone who was in the eops program that they made come over there for a meeting during spring break, they say oh you have to call to reserve a seat and there was only 2 people total, and they already tell u stuff that u already know, i had a gerography teacher say that people around the area don't go to pcc because they know they can't finish in 2 years

People don't finish PCC in two years? What?!

Well I've talked to two people and they've been there for like three years now but I took it because they started off with really low level math. I don't see why people complain about the scheduling difficulties. I had a late registration date but even then I got a pretty decent schedule. I'll have to be taking Math 5A and English 1A in the Winter however but that is because I had a late registration date. Shouldn't be too hard.

yah most people i knew there have been there 3 years or so, someone said pcc wants you to stay longer

i like the big class selection. i only need 1 class to finish up my GE's and PCC was the only community college in my area that offered the class one day a week so i don't have to waste my time driving 3x a week.

any of u pccers saw columbia university rep during university day? I saw her and i thought it was a lil bit unbelievable to have a rep from an ivy league to fly all the way to cal just to be there at pcc.

I know MANY people transferred to cal, ucla, etc... after 2 years....it really should NOT be hard at all....i too, will be applying to UCs this november and be gone next fall....and that makes me graduating in time (2 years)

if you're willing to sacrifice your summer and winter the first year, then you'll probably have a pretty darn light schedule toward the end of second year in spring

just plan your schedule wisely people!

Adamantine, yea i saw the columbia university rep. I saw her last year too and I was surprised that columbia university came. At first I thought maybe it was a different university lol. Well caltech was also there recruiting people, but of course we're right next door to caltech.

The people I know who don't get out of pcc in two years are
a) people who have no purpose of transferring out
b) people who have been changing majors, such as from english to science
c) science majors- it's a heavy unit major (most usu. get out by their 3rd year)
d) international students-they're adjusting to the system here and many times they are behind in their english classes

As moonboy said, many people at pcc do get out in two years. These are some of the exceptions.

That's totally evil. But so far it seems that those that are there for three years are the ones that don't have any specific goals. Luckily us CC people will be gone after two years!

Some exceptions include people having to stay longer than 2 years to work and support their family and perhaps many other unfortunate circumstances as well.

Some people here on CC do in fact stay for 3 years or more and do have goals.

pcc only has one winter and one summer, but if u go to like on the the los angles distrist colleges, they have one winter, and 2 summers that are only 5 weeks each compared to 6 at pcc, i took a winter at pcc, then transfered full time to one of the la distict one, tried to take bio over the second summer session but 6 hours a day from 8-2 was a bit too much, so hopefully it was just be 2.5 years and not 3 like the counseler said, u just want to get out of a cc asap

some people just love pcc. My mom knows someone who has graduated from PCC more than like twice. Shes taken i think almost all classes available at PCC. =)

I love PCC...If I could, I would finish the Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, Computer Science, and jazz guitar series. I'd also go for some more english classes too (creative writing maybe?). Too much good stuff....and it's cheap!

yea PCC is really cheap.. I mean this semester i only have to pay like 20 bux for 4 classes (16 units). Thas friggin cheap!!! And the classes quality aren't that bad.

too bad you can't say that about the parking
