How does taking pass fail classes work? If I wanted to take a class in something I know nothing about (but am interested in) without putting my gpa in danger do I just check a box that makes it pass fail or are there just certain classes that are pass fail and certain classes are graded, regardless of if its an elective or required class for you?
Also, is passing defined as scoring above 70%?

During course registration (pre-enroll or add/drop periods), one of the pages in the process relates to credit options. Some classes allow variable credit (you choose how many credits the class is worth). If you want to take a class S/U (satisfactory/unsatisfactory), keep in mind that your major/minor may not give you credit toward graduation. The borderline is generally C-. This link from the CS department talks a lot about grading: [Grade Info](http://www.cs.cornell.edu/coursewebsite/GradeInfo.html).
