Pass/Fail

I know that Penn allows students to take courses outside of their majors/concentrations as Pass/Fail. I was just wondering how many students took advantage of this opportunity to take unrelated courses without worry of their specific grade hurting their gpa. Is this practice looked down upon at all by graduate schools or top recruiters? Finally, if many Penn students do take advantage of the Pass/Fail option, what is the typical limit of such courses? Thanks.

...anyone???

I think we can take 3 (?) tops. Definitely only 1 per semester.

It's not that common in Wharton, at least, because you can't take any of our (very large) core curriculum classes pass/fail. You would need to have at least a couple AP credits and/or take 5 classes every semester through junior year to have that opportunity. And usually by the time you make it through the core, it's in your best interests to take extra classes you know you can get A's in to bump up your GPA (as opposed to tough ones where you'd benefit from P/F). So in short, it's an underused option.

I imagine there are similar restrictions in CAS, SEAS, and Nursing.

you can't take any major or minor requirements pass/fail, only electives
