can SAS students take wharton courses as electives?

mhmm, yup. penn promotes its "unified university" idea, in that ANY student at penn, regardless of their respective school or major, can take courses at anyone of the other undergraduate (and some graduate) schools.

there are limits though. you are capped at a certain number. 5 maybe?

cap varies on school

i'm an engineer and i've taken 7 (8, if cross-listings count) wharton courses... and i'm not dual or joint degree

SOmetimes your major may put a limit on how many courses outside your school can count. For example the IR major has a number of Wharton courses that can count towards the major, but you are capped at 2 or 3 I think...the College will let you take more after that, but it won't count towards the major.

There isn't an actual cap. There are limits to how many non-SAS courses can apply to your major (which depends on your major) and to your B.A. degree (4 in the College), but as long as you fulfill all your requirements you can take as many extra classes as you want. Of course that'll mean taking 5 or 6 or more courses a semester.
