My dad is Stanford alumni, so I've basically done something through stanford every year of my life. I've done Stanford family adventures in the summer along with sports camps, etc. Will this at all help my chances of getting in? Is it something to put in the "why Stanford" segment of my app (because it really is part of the reason i chose stanford)?

Thanks all.

Since you're a legacy (and on top of that, you've done prior Stanford activities) I think it will be a bit of a boost.

However, I wouldn't say, "Why Stanford? Because my dad went there and because I've done sports camps there." This reveals nothing about your personality/goals.

These things are worth mentioning, but delve into WHY these experiences have made you want to go to Stanford. Is it because you have a close relationship with your father and trust his judgment about Stanford being a great school? Is it because you learned something at Stanford that you want to continue exploring?

Those will certainly make for more interesting responses to the Why Stanford? prompt than what they usually get I'm sure, but they will need to be treated very carefully. As celestial605 pointed out, you'll need to make sure that you're still revealing information about yourself, and you'll certainly want to avoid sounding like your trying to beat the dead legacy horse over and over again. But I think you do it if you stay concrete, and keep it simple and to the point.

And yes, it will help your chances of getting in.
