Patient Contact Hours

My daughter was accepted into the ELMPA program. She is very excited about that. My question is about the patient contact hours. Does the school help students by informing them of opportunities or places to contact? Would some of her time in the EMT training count? And is it possible to take that class freshmen year instead of sophomore year so she can start getting her hours the summer after freshmen year? Thanks.

Hi @carolinesmom, congratulations to your daughter on her acceptance to the ELMPA program, you should be very proud with this extremely competitive program.

There will be a lot of guidance an support to ensure your daughter is on the right path with her contact hours. She will have an ELMPA adviser who is a faculty member in the program. They will meet freshmen year to go over their plan for the contact hours requirement and many times between then and her 5th year. I have had a number of my students go through the entry level program without an issue in finding locations or hours to complete this requirement as they allow a number of different types of locations to count.

EMT hours will count and a certification in CT will be required by the end of her sophomore year. There is reciprocity in some states but her adviser will assist with that process. The program does require EMT hours as well and she may get waived out of the the EMT class if she already has a certification, if not she would not be able to take the class as a freshmen because of class constraints (there is no room in the sophomore class to accommodate freshmen).

Ultimately, many of these determinations and decisions will be made by the PA program faculty and directors. Please PM me or email me at pmkrsiak@qu.edu so I can place you in touch with the adviser who can give you the exact details on if the EMT experience.

Again, congrats to her! It’s an amazing program!

Carolinesmom- to echo Paul’s comment the ELMPA advisor will go over all the requirements and each semester sends out GPA and Patient Contact hours as recorded. There are many opportunities other then EMT to get hours and it’s an extremely thought out program to get to the end result QU PA Graduate program. The advisor will also send out Patient contact hours opportunities in the local area to help you get the required hours. I think you will also find the University to be top notch and invests a lot in infrastructure and its Academic Programs. The Anatomy class does use a cadaver in the lab and have no doubts your daughter will be extremely prepared at the end of Senior year. In addition, QU’s social media is outstanding and just following it will keep you updated what’s going on around Campus.

Lastly, the admission staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. We met Paul at an open house and was one of the driving factors that put QU at #1 on the college search. We were looking at that time at Physical Therapy until she shadowed and changed her mind to go PA. I think she was extremely lucky to be selected to get into the PA program given the competition.

I don’t have enough kind word for Paul, the Admission staff and QU! Thanks again Paul!

Thanks @collegemoneyman! The kind words are much appreciated  I hope Sarah is doing well and glad to have you as a presence on this forum as a QU parent.

What is the acceptance rate & average Gpa/Sat scores for accepted students in the ELMPA program?

The acceptance rate is typically between 5-9%. Average GPA is an “A”, top 4% of graduating class, ACT 31 or SAT 1410. Also the program deadline for this has changed from November 15 to October 15 for application submission, accompanying documents (transcripts, etc) may be submitted afterwards.
