Paul Tulane Award Applicants

@bananabonanza historically all of the DHS and PT awards are mailed on the same day.

This is so exciting. A lot to be grateful for! @TulaneMaddie22 are the considerations for PT, DHS and Stamps complete now? If a candidate received a notification for PT or DHS - can they still be considered for Stamps? Or - have all Stamps candidates been notified?

So on my applicant status portal, it says Iā€™m invited to come to Top Scholarā€™s Weekend?? This was definitely not there before. When I was accepted EA with the Distinguished Scholars award, I never received any notification of being allowed to come to Top Scholarā€™s Weekend. Does this mean something, or have Distinguished Scholars been allowed to come all along? I also donā€™t see an update to my portal about DHS or PTA, and I havenā€™t received any notification on UPS (but I donā€™t think itā€™s working anyways).

And now my portal no longer explicitly lists what my scholarship isā€¦ It literally says, ā€œthe admission committee has selected you as a .ā€ Iā€™m very confused.

Im a stamps finalist and have not received any notification of PTA or DHS so i assume A select few kids who did not get those awards are stamps finalists

@thefloridavegan SAME!!! Iā€™m very confused

@mcf010 glad to know Iā€™m not alone!!

@College4Juju I have also been nominated for a USC trustee scholarship. If I get that scholarship, I will probably go to USC, even though weā€™re going to have to endure higher travel costs.

Congrats to all who have gotten the fat envelopes (by whatever means) do far.

Tulane is a great school, but also pretty expensive. Getting that big a break on the cost is a great opportunity for you, but a YUGE deal for your check writing parents!!

Thanks @thefloridavegan. I was hoping someone on here would respond. Would you pick USC if they didnā€™t give you money? Just wondering.

No, I wouldnā€™t. We donā€™t have the money for that haha. If I donā€™t get the USC scholarship (and I donā€™t get the Tulane scholarship either), Iā€™m going to UF.

@College4Juju, my D received (unexpectedly) the DHS last night. Tulane was #3 on her list but she is still waiting to hear back from 6 ā€œselectiveā€ schools. This scholarship and what it means financially is definitely a game changer. We could probably swing full pay somewhere else butā€¦wow. Another factor to consider is that Tulane doesnā€™t really have her major - she would sort of have to piece it together. We are going to go visit over her spring break and that will help solidify things a bitā€¦I hope!

JuJu ā€“ price is an object for almost all families.

Studies show that the overwhelming majority of college decisions come down to two factors: (i) school reputation and (ii) cost. Knowing that is a big reason why schools offer merit scholarships for high stat strong applicants.

If the price is the same, everyone who gets in picks Harvard. But Harvard does basically zero merit aid; need-based aid only.

So if the choice is $65k Harvard vs. $30k USC vs. $15k Tulane, you would find families winding up picking each of those attractive options. It becomes a fair fight. The schools give out merit money pretty much for the reason of changing your enrollment decision from what it would be if the money was even.

@College4Juju my parents rule is that I can pick any school that is comparable in price to a UC (my instate option). Tulaneā€™s generous merit award puts it in that ball park, so my decision will come down to how much I like my campus visit and what other offers materialize. They made it clear that while they donā€™t expect me to pick the cheapest school my choice must comply with the previously mentioned price rule. I think their candor on the financial aspect of my college search has made the entire process better.

@College4Juju - Yes - it depends if any one of the top 3 choice colleges of our son offer admission to him. However, getting PTA from Tulane has changed the equation and will certainly make that decision very difficult.

Unless finances/ability to ā€œfull payā€ is not an issue of concern, attending Tulane, a high quality research university with talented professors and students, should be an easy decision if one is fortunate enough to receive the Paul Tulane or Deans Honor Scholarship! Just my 2 cents

All merit scholarships of $30K and $32K are invited to Top Scholars Weekend, along with the full scholarships winners.

@thefloridavegan You probably got one of the full tuition awards. I was chosen as a distinguished scholar. Iā€™m pretty confident I didnā€™t get PTA, and my portal hasnā€™t changed at all.

@mcf010 Sorry, just seeing this question so you probably already have an answer, but yes, Gibson did change.

@TulaneMaddie22 does Tulane admit students into honors a few months after they received their initial acceptance without honors for students who did not receive the DHS? My student now can also register for the honors weekend when initially she was only invited to DT?
