PAVE at Vanderbilt 2011

I haven’t sent in everything yet (I’ll do it after winter break so I can see what my rank is :p), but I hope I get in! My gpa is a 3.83 uw and a ~4.25 weighted. my school only has ~5 ap classes, and I’ve taken 2 so far, including 2 IB classes.

even though I haven’t been accepted yet, I’ll join the group :p

I have officially sent in my full PAVE application, as of this past week! Unweighted GPA of a 3.9 (AP World killed it with an A-), and a weighted GPA of 4.225. Taking all honors and AP classes, including AP Chem, AP Stat, Precalc HN, AP Lang, and APUSH. Hoping to hear back soon- I think I will by Christmas. So excited for this summer, I’ve heard great things about the PAVE program and think it sounds like one of the best academically AND socially.

^same! I’ve officially decided to send in my entire app by wednesday lol. :)

I’m so happy to see more people sending in apps! This summer is going to be awesome!

How much does PAVE cost to attend?

I think it costs ~4500 dollars. I don’t have the brochure with me so I can’t really say…

Btw I requested to join the fb group :p

Actually, the cost is around $6000 for the summer. I do believe that the program offers financial aid though.

I concur, it’s closer to $6000 with tuition and room/board. But the PAVE program will do their best to meet your financial aid needs

thanks for clearing that up y’all :p

Hey guys!

So I just mailed my application today! I’m still waiting on my counselor and my transcript but I’m so excited to hear back! I’ve heard nothing but great things about the program!

In terms of gpa, my unweighted is a little lower than i’d hope right now at a 3.84 and weighted is 4.42 but i’m crossing my fingers for straight A’s this year which will bump me to a 3.9 something and 4.7 something. I’ve also got quite a load with AP Bio, AP English language, AP Calc AB, Spanish 4, and APUSH.

i haven’t been accepted just yet, but if and when i am, i will join the facebook group :)

Hey! I haven’t even sent in my application yet, but I really want to go this year. I was just wondering if you guys knew exactly what I should be doing for that brief letter. About how long did you guys make it? Besides that, do you think I can get in with a 3.9+ unweighted and a 5.5+ weighted? Last year I took AP world and this year AP Bio, AP Eng, AP Calc, APUSH, and the rest of all my courses were honors except gym which was required. I’ve always gotten a’s except this year I think I might get one b, but I’m not sure until we get our report cards back, so I’m gonna stick with the 3.9+. And my extras are okay, but nothing special. Thanks a lot!

I think my pave letter was one full page but I talked about baseball and leadership and grades and stuff and how I try and balance it all. But really, I think you’re grades will get you in just fine. 3.9 uw gpa? Pretty awesome if you ask me.

Hmm, just checking but the prompt was just like why you want to go to PAVE right? Yeah, I’m probably gonna try and make it kinda personal too. Lol thanks dude, I really really hope so! So you don’t think it’s super competitive to get in right?

I honestly don’t know. But last year about 20 kids from the program went on to attend Vanderbilt and the rest went to top tier institutions, so you can tell the type of people that are applying

My letter was also just a page in length, and I just wrote about how much i like chemistry because it combines math and science. I don’t even think I mentioned my extra curriculars or sports, just talked alot about school and tried to make it personal to me, so I threw in that I love country music and that’s why I want to live in Nashville. I wouldn’t worry too much about it though, I’m sure your grades will get you in!

Yeah, that definitely makes sense. I almost thought there was another prompt I was missing though because of the way you responded for your letter lol, but I guess it’s probably pretty open for what you can do on it. And annepav10, that’s what I’m gonna do too! Not about chemistry, but just about why I’m looking forward to the academics and other general stuff. Thanks a lot guys!

I got in!!! Thanks a lot guys!!! Seeya soon!!!

congratulationssss!! my counselor’s been sick all week, so I haven’t even sent off my app yet. JOY.

Hahaha guidance counselors are so unpredictable. I’m pretty sure you still have a couple months though, before they close admissions, but good luck!! And thanks!! Btw for anyone else looking for letter help, I ended up writing a PARTLY fictitious letter… but it was actually really good, so I feel like that helped a lot. It’s prolly not the best thing to do, but whenever you can embellish an aspect of your life just a little but to make you stand out, it’s worth it. For me it made my life story a lot more inspirational, like I’m following a dream. I wrote about how I used to spend time with my great uncle, who’s a researcher, in his lab, and how I really wanted to try out some of my own research at Vandy in the labs because I want to be one too. In reality though, I’m not really too sure what I want to be. And then I transitioned to more general stuff, like how Vandy is one of my top choice schools and how I wanted to take ap comp sci and now I’ll feel more confident. It ended up being 2/3 or 3/4 of a page, single spaced.

Hey guys,
I’m applying to this program even though I’m a sophomore, but I am graduating a year early, Class of 2012. Anyway, my GPA’s around a 3.9 unweighted, and I really hope I get in! I’ve taken chemistry, physics and precalc. Does anyone know how competetive admission to this program is?
