Pay for parking when visiting campus?

I just registered for a campus tour in March. In the confirmation email, there was a link to parking options. It seems that this page tells me I'm supposed to fork over $5 just to visit the campus? This will be my third time on campus and my second campus tour. My first campus tour was with a friend and she didn't pay, but this time I'm going in my own car and don't want to run the risk of getting a citation.

So...are you supposed to pay? Or not?

Pay... typical for public universities in urban environments where parking is tight. Some private universities in similar environments give freebie parking vouchers to propspies (USC), some make you pay (BU, Brown), but ALL publics we visited made us pay.

Be careful if you try to park on the street. There are no parking meters, but if you see a "Pay to Park" sign you need to locate the kiosk, feed it money, and post the ticket on your window. Parking on campus is easier. But there are good bus connections to UW if you want to save some $.

Parking is free on campus on Sunday. I think it might start on Saturday afternoon--but it is free all day Sunday.

You can park in the Central Parking Plaza for free after 12 pm on Saturdays.
