Paying first bill. FinAid?

The first bill is due soon, but what if we can't pay it without our FinAid? When are Cal Grants and scholarship money coming and where will we look to see if it has been applied? Will the Cars bill update with a new balance once the Cal Grant is applied?

Once FinAid is disbursed, it will reflect on your CARS statement but to see more clearly what has/has not been disbursed, simply go to myfinaid.berkeley.edu and look under “Award Payment Status.” If your FinAid has not been disbursed by tomorrow and do not have any blocks or missing documents, I’d give the FinAid office a call. In my case, all of my grants were disbursed on the 8th.

But even in the case that you do not get your FinAid by the 15th (for some reason) I wouldn’t worry too much as the 15th is a soft-deadline and the university will from past experience, will not apply late fees just yet.

Go to BearFacts, click on the CARS tab, and then select the “Quick Statement (Current Balance)” link. This amount would be the most accurate representation of how much you need to pay, as it gets updated daily and thus would reflect any disbursements of financial aid whereas the CARS bill they sent you around a month ago remains static.

Like aeboi, my FinAid kicked in around the 8th and the amount under the Quick Statement showed the revised balance I now need to pay the university. They won’t send you another CARS bill with updated numbers.

Thanks you two! Looks like my Grants were already applied and I just didn’t know where to look!

Has anyone gotten their refund yet?

When do they charge late fees? My Cal Grant hasn’t been disbursed yet because I submitted the G-8 form only a few days ago.

My “Federal Pell Grant” is the only thing not “Paid” on MyFinAid. Is that the refund people are talking about?

I was just notified a few hours ago through email that my refunds will be sent to my bank account.

@MeStudyStuff
Excess aid that isn’t needed to pay off student fees will be refunded to the account you designated through EFT. If your fees have been covered without the Fed Pell Grant money then that money will be part of the “Refund” once it is disbursed.

Both my son and daughter got an email a few hours ago that the refunds will be sent to the bank account by tomorrow.

Thanks aeboi!

Is it just me or did financial aid go down substantially compared to previous years?

i’m confused… on my CARS quick statement, it says $0 for my all the items listened. but i havent paid my monthly e-bill and it says i have to pay 7k and 2k for a " deferred payment" when i look on e-bill ? and i just got a refund for about $600 to my bank account. no idea what’s happening -_-

did you look at your financial aid award status on myfinaid?
