paying full tuition for college

i got into ucd, uci, ucsb and ucsd
i was hoping to make my decision upon whichever school gave my the best scholarship. but as of right now i dont think any of them gave me anything. i was under the impression that a lot of people dont pay the full college tuition amount and thats the reason why i was expecting to get something. also i didnt apply for the fasfa because im sure that i wouldnt qualify for financial aid.
this sucks.

oh and why did we apply for those scholarships on the uc application? when do those decisions come out? do they mail them to you?

Are you from California? If so, there are a lot of us here who envy your instate college costs!! I thought the UC's required the FAFSA for all finaid. Perhaps someone from CA could respond better than I can. Also, the FAFSA is an application form, not a place that dispenses finaid. I would suggest completing. Also, you might want to check to see that you've fulfilled their finaid application requirements. Many schools require some kind of application form (FAFSA, Profile or school form) for most kinds of aid, even merit aid (scholarships).

scholarships are used to attract students in the top of the applicant group -- students that might otherwise attend another school. These scholarships are generally for students whose test scores and GPA are at the top of the range for the school. If that was not the case for you, you were mistaken in your belief that you wouldn't be a full payor at the school.

If you parents can pay, then it should all work out. If not -- contact the schools and see if you can still file for financial aid.

yeah im from cali...i guess i shouldnt complain, im the first child to go to college so my parents are gonna have to get used to the hole im burning into their pockets

*also i didnt apply for the fasfa because im sure that i wouldnt qualify for financial aid. *

At minimum, you would have qualified for unsubsidized Stafford loans.
YOu also may be eligible for work study- but I would suggest to fill it out ASAP- you will be at the end of the line, but you might be pleasantly surprised.
