macs are gross. You pay about 2x the price of a pc for this compact all-in-one machine. Admittedly, it does look nicer than the microsoft counterparts. The advantages end there, though. You can’t open up a Mac, either physically to replace hardware or digitally to fix issues. Macs are basically designed so that if it breaks, you have to pay Apple extortion money to get it fixed.

Some people claim that Macs are easier to use, but I find Macs and pc to both be very user friendly, its just a matter of what you’re used to. Others argue that a Mac OS is a “finished product”, while windows needs an assortment of drivers. They foolishly fail to realize that these drivers come with the OS, many of which they never use and just sit there wasting hard drive space.

In conclusion, if you’re rich (or just prefer shelling out money to going online and learning how to do stuff) and technophobic, Macs are the way to go. Most people should stick with pcs.

Linux is a powerful yet simple platform. However, it is created by the open source community for the open source community, which do not include your typical users. People who switches to Linux for the sake of not using Windows often find themselves at a loss of knowing where to begin with the platform. Unless you’re using *nix as a server backend, you’re not harnessing the real power of the platform.

Agree. The only people who prefer Macs over Windows-based PCs are the filthy rich and the technologically ■■■■■■■■. I can’t stand using Macs because of the huge dearth of third party software, the price, and the oppressive, restrictive environment, including the choice of hardware (I build desktops, and would rather have a choice of parts). Apple in general maintains a complete level of control over their products, recently evidenced in the lack of flash for the iPad (The full web? Really?)

There is, I guarantee you, a good reason for why Apple refuses to support flash with iPads, iPhone, and iPod Touches.

That being said, I have used Macs my whole life. PCs are so frustrating… my friends have had numerous problems with their computers, while I can only think of one serious situation with a Mac (and that was likely due to a problem with our power, not the computer itself).

Someone made a great point on another forum.

He said as follows.

" ^ even as an apple head i say it all the time, most apple customers are dumb as rocks lol… never ending lines at the genius bar for the most absurd things. its like baby sitting kids with most of the never used windows before apple people, apple has made their equipment so “user friendly” the people using em barely know how to use a computer anymore, which is ironic since mac owners are supposedly stereotyped as “smarter” or high tech advance blah blah. the fact apple offers these expensive classes for ***** like how to use itunes proves my point.
when an apple glitches, they panic and run to the store… when a windows based machine glitches, the user hits the manual, trouble shoots or takes the damn thing apart and fixes it himself. "

Direct quote from an apple user himself. …he’s brilliant isn’t he!

The statement about how mac users barely even know how to use computers anymore just totally sealed the deal for me.

true. it’s a pretty easy system for technologically challenged people… like my mom haha… I grew up on PC’s, but I think macs run easier so I like them =)

I love my Macs, and I enjoy using Windows and BSD, and when I’m in the mood, Linux distros too.

My portables are almost always Apple laptops, and I carry an iPod. Really? I love being called “technically ■■■■■■■■”, by someone that later asks me how to do what I just did in Windows. Oh wait? Carrying around a Mac means you don’t know ***** about computers…

derrrrrr lowers IQ to 75 I’mma have to go to a “special school” …

I am not disagreeing with your point about Mac users. However, i do disagree with your “taking it apart statement”.

Microsoft Windows is entirely proprietary software. You can never and will never be able to tear the software apart and see where problems lie. Sure, you can check a manual but since when do manuals offer solutions to every single thing that can go wrong with a computer system? If by trouble shooting you mean going through pointless wizards that barely help anything than yes, windows users are absolute geniuses.

The only way to fix a problem in the source code is to view it, understand it, and modify it. Switch to a unix based system and you will see what I mean.

I’ve never understood this. Why does everyone think that viruses will arbitrarily “get” viruses? Unless you’re a dumbass, you’re not gonna get viruses. Even when you go to the bad sites, as long as you’re not clicking everything in sight, you’re not gonna get a virus. I’m running free anti virus software, and I’ve never gotten one.

I’ve also never understood why people think that a virus is gonna total your computer. When my brother trashed his computer, all I had to do was download a few virus scrubbers and it was good as new.

You do realize that the sole reason that Macs aren’t as prone to viruses as windows is is due to the fact that Windows specific viruses can’t infect Macs right? ;)
