Hey all you Yalies and prospective Yalies! So I was talking to a friend about courses in economics at Yale and he was talking about Yale is really rigorous with even their intermediate economics courses. Can anyone confirm this (and obviously, I know it is an incredible school and well-known for academics, but I heard its economics department in particular is VERY strong)? Also, I am a junior in high school taking Intermediate Microeconomics with Calculus, a graduate course in Advanced Econometrics, and a Partial Differential Equations course at my local university in addition to my high school courses. I have A's in all of them so far. Would this help me stand out as an applicant next year?

Yes, it would.

Yes, I’ve heard the intermediate econ courses are pretty tough. The intro courses are pretty straightforward, and most of the electives aren’t too bad from what I’ve heard. I’m taking Financial Markets with Shiller though, and that class is definitely very tough.

Okay, thanks for the information! It really helps that you have had some experience with the economics classes. I’m hoping that, if I do by chance get into Yale, I will pursue some sort of economic or financial major (or mathematics). I definitely want very rigorous courses in all of these though just to expand upon my knowledge base for my own personal fulfillment too, so that is nice to hear that it seems straightforward but with a high standard.

We don’t have any financial majors. Econ is the only thing, or variations of that [Econ + Math/EPE/etc]

Best of luck!
