We just learned that Dartmouth requires students to take PE for three terms in order to graduate. They offer a wide variety of classes to meet this requirement, including yoga and skiing.
I don't remember a PE requirement at other colleges, other than swimming tests at a few schools. Should this matter at all, or is there enough choice that everyone finds some PE class they can enjoy?

I think it’s a good way to fight obesity in US.

Cornell requires two semesters of PE. (They required four semesters a few decades ago when I was there.) There’s a huge variety of classes to choose from, so not much problem finding something to fit your interests.

The University of Chicago requires 3 quarters ( = one year), but it can be tested out of.

I know Reed has a PE requirement, as does Swarthmore (essentially a year’s worth, but can be spread out over the first two years) in addition to a swim test.

MIT and Caltech do too. It seems common enough and a good way to keep kids exercising when they arrive at college. Hopefully, they’ll continue to exercise after the class too.
