Yeah, it's a really random question. Sorry.
Do most, if any, colleges make students take some sort of physical education class?

Some do, some don’t.

IIRC, I think UChicago does. I don’t speak from experience, but I remember one of my friends telling me that her brother had to take it.

At Columbia, you have to take a swim test. At Notre Dame, you have to take PE. Some of the smaller LACs, you might not have to, but check if it’s a concern.

Generally, those that do have required PE don’t make you take a PE class. They will have a PE requirement. It’s a big difference. You can fill this requirement typically with club sports, intramurals, dance, or an actual class, if you want.

In other words, you may not take a class for a grade. My D fulfilled her school’s PE requirement by taking rock climbing twice a week.

Dartmouth has a PE requirement. They explained that students can fulfill it with skiing, among many other choices. The admissions officer said it was to keep students active even during cold weather.

At the other extreme you have to take PE classes at the Academies and there are very few options for classes (most are mandatory). Also mandatory intramurals unless you are on a NCAA team.
