Peace Corps anyone?

I am currently an undergraduate at Georgetown and plan to graduate Spring 2013 with a degree in International Business and minors in Government and Economics. Currently, I do extensive volunteer work abroad; I have gone to Guatemala, Indonesia, and before the year is up will be in Ghana over break. I plan to study abroad in London Fall 2012 and do internships abroad for my next two summers. I have no idea where my scores will be or what my GPA is going to come out as but I was wondering:

If I were to join the Peace Corps for two years upon graduation, how much will this improve my chances for pursuing an MA in International Relations either back at Georgetown, Berkley, or Columbia? Technically, would this be work experience? Just wondering how much of an impact this type of commitment yields especially as a direct result of my undergrad coursework and experience to prepare for my graduate degree. Thanks

bump?*****

Bump… I’m wondering this as well.

I’m sure it will help. It certainly won’t hurt.

right…anything a bit more specific or some case examples?

Peace Corps is great on anyone’ s resume however given the economy…be aware that at the moment it is a 12 -18 month wait for the Peace Corps and doubtful you will receive your preferred placement. My daughter’s friend moved up the list because she is a native-born Russian speaker, born in the Ukraine and came to the U.S. at age 7. She wanted Asia… but with the language was placed elsewhere.

What specifically do you want to know? I can’t tell you exactly how much it will help your application but I’m sure that it WILL help. If your undergrad grades are horrible, however, it’s not going to help enough to admit you most likely.

I’m interested in people who have gone on to top graduate schools that served in the peace corps, how their experiences helped them etc If anyone knows of someone their story would be interesting to say the least, thanks.
