So, um, i've decided to stop sitting around on my duff and get in shape! haha

has anyone ever taken PED 106c 2 (cardiovas & weight training)? i'm a girl and i should say that i'm REALLY out of shape... i'm not fat, but i've never really been into sports or athletics and i can barely run or lift. i registered for it but i know i'll end up dropping it if i don't start feeling better about it ... because for now it's more of a punishment than something i'm just dying to do, lol. is the class full of really in-shape athletes who will point and laugh at me when they see me falling on my @$$ every day?

danke schön :)

ive seen one of those classes at greg before and there are people of all shapes and sizes all having a good time. They set you up with a program that is tailored for your stage of physical fitness and I think you have a workout partner or two that you lift with.

It seems like a good class to take because they will probably give you knowledge about not only proper form on lifts, but also a good program to stick to and info on diet and a general healthy lifestyle. Sounds like a good investment to me!

thanks! i’m excited but also somewhat nervous, lol

I think you’ll do great, AIP! It’s great you’re taking advantage of a class while you’re in college. It gets harder once you have a full-time job! Don’t worry about what other people think about you. I speak from experience. I’m a middle-aged woman who runs as slowly as a turtle (seriously). But I lost 30 pounds and feel great! I run 5ks, 10ks, and half marathons. I usually finish among the very last runners. But I’m doing better than the millions of people who sit on their couches watching TV!

I took this course! It was great. I am guessing that depending on your instructor, the course structure will vary significantly. For example, our instructor basically just had us use the hour as a “work out” hour at Gregory, so people would go and use the weight machines and cardio equipment, no real assignments or required schedule. I’m pretty sure in this course you aren’t allowed to use free weights. Even though it was pretty open, my friend and I would talk to the instructor and ask about specific things we wanted to learn about health, nutrition, proper working out methods and he was happy to talk to anyone on the side about those things.

cool! so did your instructor kind of check in with you every once in a while/show you around the gym? because i’m an absolute n00b when it comes to that kind of thing, if i go to the gym i go to the one in the stadium that’s always empty because i’m too afraid to be seen around people making an idiot of myself stumbling around the machines…ha

Oh, so to answer you earlier question, its not full of people who are in amazing shape. There are a few im sure who probably are over qualified, but it seemed like most people were like you (and my friend and I), and just wanted to work out/learn some basics. I think its required for him (it was a while ago) to go over each machine the first two days before we were allowed to start, so he’ll show you how to use them. He might check in with you, when I was working out he’d come by and give tips, like relax your shoulders when on the bike machine, etc. It would probably be a good class for you since you want to learn, I wouldn’t worry about making a fool of yourself or anything, there will be majority of others in the class wanting to learn as well.

I think it depends on the instructor though. If you have more q’s you can message me if you want.

AIP, I sure hope you go for it! Getting in shape while you’re still young is SO important. If you’re in shape BEFORE you have kids, you’ll be a great role model for them and they will benefit from your hard work. My kids know we expect them to go out and exercise, and they don’t mind, because they see Mom and Dad doing the same thing.

You’ll find as an adult that there are LOTS of gyms out there. Some of them do cater to the guys who are incredible physical specimens, but a lot of them are for normal people who are struggling to lead a healthy lifestyle. longhornz has given you great advice!

I really wanted to take this class but it was restricted during my registration time - and now the classes are all closed :[ I opted for Circuit Aerobics instead - we’ll see how that goes!! I’m really not fit - my exercise is basically walking to my classes -.- I hope this class will really help me next semester!!!

kiwistars - If you email the instructor for weight training and talk to them, they might let you in. often times the classes are full but one or two more won’t make it crowded (Gregory is already pretty crowded as is).
