I'm currently thinking about these 2 schools.
I have a place at both, and I was wondering if you guys could give me some advice about both schools.

I'm an international student who is entering as an 11th grader so do take note of that.

When we were looking, I worried about both schools’ high day population–it means very quiet weekends and less focus on boarders in general. We found them very close academically and sizewise, but a key difference was that Loomis felt more preppy with its high concentration of Connecticut kids and Peddie felt less so b/c so many kids are from NJ with very few New England kids.

Don’t know Peddie so I can’t do a comparison, but things I like about LC: the town of Windsor. Right outside the gates. Not isolated like some schools, the town is the right size to have a couple of restaurants, a CVS, etc, and an easy walk. I thought LC was less preppy than the other CT schools. Really liked the 3 people we met in Admissions over 2 different visits, and the students that toured us (both day & boarding). Don’t find that their web media represents the school very well; kindof too bad. For us it’s a plus that it’s very close to the Hartford airport, will make visiting from afar easier. Also liked the general approach to kids & schooling, seemed very low key and supportive to me. Headmaster impressive.

2erlanger: I’m not sure that I agree with the logic. It is a boarding school with a day population, but faculty live on campus, so the boarders are the ones getting the school’s full experience. Given LC’s size and day/board ratio, you have close to 400 boarders living there, more than some of the smaller BS. And since they have Saturday classes every other week, the day students we talked to made it sound like they were there at school most of the time.

I am not familiar with the statistics of LC, but here’s an overview of Peddie: About one third of Peddie’s student’s are day and Peddie’s community is extremely close and friendly. Regarding academics, Peddie has great facilities. Recently the new athletics center was completed and it’s amazing! Peddie offers a superb arts program. Also, Peddie’s sport teams are well regarded- especially swimming and basketball. There are a wide variety of courses and many AP classes to be taken. Peddie is also close to it’s town which has a pizza place, restaurants, drugstore, exc. I hope that helped! I recommend attending the revisit days as well before you make your final decision!

Both are great schools. I decided that I wouldn’t apply to Peddie after my interview, but that is just because I didn’t feel that the school was the right fit for me, not because of anything negative about Peddie. I am thrilled to be attending Loomis this fall. I would suggest going to both revisit days and getting a feel for each school, and trying to figure out which you would be more successful/happy at. You really can’t go wrong with either! Good luck!

Prepsouth, teachers who live on campus teach, coach, have spouses and children so anyone who tells you they are there for kids all the time are lying. With a higher day population, IMO, the culture changes because they know lots of kids get it at home. There is less focus on the importance of weekends, holiday planning, and consideration for those who live far away. It is not a deal breaker for some but it does change the philosophy of how involved they may need to be with kids.
