Peer recommendation worth it?

hey everyone,

I'm thinking of applying to Dartmouth or Davidson (among others), and so I've asked a really good friend to write a reference for me.

Do you think it's worth it to send this to other universities?

I'm applying EA to University of Michigan, so should I send it along as a character reference, or would it irritate the admissions officers because they have to read something else? For what it's worth, I would quite like to send it, but I tend towards the slightly dumb view that the more, the better :P

Any insight would be appreciated,

Thank you!

No, only send it to colleges that require/recommend it.

Agree with mom

Alright, thanks.

Is there a specific reason why, other than it will be annoying to those reading my application?

The reason why I want to is because University of Michigan only asks for 1 teacher evaluation, so I thought another might not hurt.

“Is there a specific reason why, other than it will be annoying to those reading my application?”

This is EXACTLY the reason why. UMich (Ann Arbor) is the only public school in the entire state that even requires ONE rec letter. You’re not a special case – piling more does not make your app stronger.

The old adage stands: “The thicker the file, the thicker the kid”

Another extremely strong LOR that address other things about you from a teacher, supervisor, mentor, etc. might be helpful. From your friend? No.

Ok, thank you for your help!
