Peer Schools...

what would you guys say that Vandy's peer schools are? I say Rice, Emory, Notre Dame.

That's about right. Add schools like Georgetown and Northwestern.

There is considerable overlap with applications to Washington Univ St. Louis, especially from students from the midwest/southern midwest.

The schools are similar size, both have a lot of premeds, include engineering schools, both are urban, both are top20 and both offer merit scholarships.

WashU really? I would have said UVA over WashU.

Well, Tex, I don't know anything about UVA. But I do know quite a few students who applied to both Wash U and Vanderbilt, because in some respects they are similar, and that is why I suggested they may be viewed by some as "peer schools".

Schools like Rice and Notre Dame are probably Vanderbilt's closest academic peers.

However, in terms of "typical student" -- I'd say Duke, Princeton, Dartmouth, Georgetown, Wake Forest, University of Southern California, Middlebury, Colgate, UVA, UNC, and Boston College.
[Some of these are reaches; some are safeties but they all tend to attract socially balanced kids similiar to Vanderbilt]

Duke, Gtown, UVa, Emory come to mind...

There are none!

Georgetown, Notre Dame, William & Mary, Emory would be similar in size, students, and environment.
