To Vanderbilt Students: Which colleges are Vandy's Peers?

Hey,

I am a bit curious about this issue... I wanted to know the opinions of Vandy students... which colleges do you all consider to be Vandy's peers (academically, reputation wise etc.) Disregarding rankings and such, what are all fo your opinions? Do you consider some Ivies peers? Top Southern Schools? Thanks

I would say Cornell, Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, Emory, Rice

SMU & SEC Schools socially
Duke
Ivies

vandy doesn’t really have any true peers. Socially we are in one class, while academically we are in a completely different one.

^ Which one is higher, socially or academically?

It’s not that one is “higher” than the other, but I think what he means is that Vanderbilt has a social scene close to a typical SEC/Southern school (Bama, Ole Miss, etc…frat parties, etc…), while it has the academic rigor of a “higher brow” school like Wash U, etc…

Rice, Duke, Emory academically; SEC schools socially

I would say Duke University, Emory University, University of Virginia, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Rice University, Washington University in St. Louis.

Wake Forest for the academics

Wake Forest? Are you on acid? Vanderbilt ****s on Wake Forest

Duke, UVA, UNC, NU, Cornell, Rice, WUST, Tufts, and maybe BC. Brown, Dartmouth, and Penn are just a smidget ahead but close, IMO. Academically, there are some LACs that can rival Vandy, but they don’t hold a candle socially.
